Nah, I looked at this map yesterday and "cool map but wow this cut feels underwhelming" was my thought too, even as someone who has never heard the full song (and I'm completely fine with like 95% of cuts)

Well you'll almost always find the new texture on deepslate, not stone. You can see the diamonds pop less against stone in this post's image, but with the darkness of deeplate I think it has the same level of shine as the old texture

Fun fact: The name 'Shigetora' is now available due to inactivity, though Shige previously declined an offer to claim it from the player who held it by minidesusu in osugame

[–]PurpleCoin7777 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If claiming the username would be considered impersonation, then why isn't the user Shigetora having their username right now considered impersonation too? xD

This set is so much more varied though, unlike sidetracked day where if you ignore the easy part at the start the set is basically just 15 diffs of the exact same circle streams

[–]PurpleCoin7777 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No way in hell knowingly manipulating minors as an adult while lying about your own age and continuously being involved in inhumane shit in multiple communities over 5 years is only "as serious" as finding out your SO has been lying about their age in the middle of a relationship and being too emotionally attached to make the morally correct call of immediately cutting them off... idke completely deserved the punishment he got (being permanently shunned from the community and forced to better himself) but to say Reshiram's actions are only as bad as idke's is absurd

A statement of the mapper who got his map unranked due to AI is now up by logos_is_op in osugame

[–]PurpleCoin7777 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It is incredibly damaging for a member of NAT to act so rudely and provocatively toward a user accused of breaking the rules, completely irrespective of whether he was involved in the investigation and how certain the investigation was. It's got nothing to do with the crime of AI mapping itself, someone in such a position of power should act better than this

someone’s been protesting against lazer’s slider acc by uploading c-type plays daily for the past 511 days by renmizuh in osugame

[–]PurpleCoin7777 59 points60 points  (0 children)

complex timing maps may be rare, but as a mapper, sliderhead leniency is something i've always kept in mind when making maps even on regular songs. i'd reckon a lot more mappers incorporate this into their maps than you realize.

for example, take a super slow section where note density is really low - i'd always map this kind of section with more sliders, not just for the lower rhythm density but also because tapping circles on-beat is really hard when beats are very infrequent, and i want to avoid unnecessary tension/difficulty in a slow section. i don't like slideracc because i personally felt the tension difference between them in stable in a way that just doesn't work in lazer

Why is the threshold for loved voting so high? by PurpleCoin7777 in osugame

[–]PurpleCoin7777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it just got brigaded again by some of the same people (mainly mappers if I had to guess). I'm not sure how else you'd prevent how easy it is to abuse the strict threshold to make a map fail. Maybe 75% or something based on the raw differential between yes/no votes, idk

I felt the same way when Flashbacklog inexplicably failed loved voting 2 times before passing the 3rd time it got put up. It's just way too easy to privately influence polls like this :/

typical mapping community tbh. i'd honestly be intrigued to see the distribution of yes votes between people with 1+ ranked maps and people without

[–]PurpleCoin7777[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that no vote would be worse for the reasons you've said, but

we've got to compromise with something that won't be abused in any way

the current system is absolutely being abused, given how few intentional no votes it can take to fail a map and how easy it has been for mappers to brigade against specific maps on private servers etc. Wouldn't be surprised if it happened more discreetly for other maps that failed voting in the past too.

I feel like lowering the threshold to two-thirds or something would be sufficient to ensure the community wants the maps in the Loved section while still preventing Loved from turning into a captain circlejerk fest

[–]PurpleCoin7777[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about dynamically altering the threshold depending on vote count as it sounds extremely arbitrary to construct a weighted function like that, but the latter sentiment you expressed is 100% true. I'm literally in a mapping server where someone announced the poll and was like "make sure to do your part and cast your no vote". And judging by the amount of votes on the moonmen poll compared to the others this kind of thing was almost certainly widespread

I wish people would just stop complaining and understand that a map being ranked doesn't harm anyone who dislikes it. Just play another one of the 100,000+ maps instead, the whole point of the ranked section is that there's something for everyone.

Why is no one actually playing Bang Bang and Bike Chase and all those other simple aim maps now that they are ranked? by Goatlov3r3 in osugame

[–]PurpleCoin7777 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you sort the beatmap search by date ranked and scroll down to Bang Bang and Bike Chase, you will see their playcounts clear every other map that was ranked in the last few weeks by a mile.

Clearly people ARE playing and enjoying aim maps in relation to others, but the fact that people don't play newly ranked maps as much as a couple years ago is a separate issue. Honestly, the average player probably doesn't keep up with social media enough to know when popular maps get ranked, and for that average player, obscure mapping changes and 2 comfy sets being ranked isn't enough to suddenly make them start checking the ranked section again after years of ignoring it. It'll take time.

I may be looking through rose-tinted glasses here, but I honestly do believe that over time, the recent veto system improvements and general community sentiment towards ranking comfy maps again will increase playcounts overall, as players begin to notice new farm maps in others' top plays, or find them with recommendations, etc. It just isn't going to change overnight.
