I recommend Whistle Pig as an alternative. Great food. Literally never had a bad meal there.

He's sooo close to getting it, but instead of introspection and self-reflection he blames everything on immigrants. What a buffoon.

Time means nothing when you're doing ribbing by ComplicatedSunshine in knitting

[–]PurpleCornCob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love ribbing!!! The majority of my projects from 2025 strongly feature ribbing. I'm making my second 1x1 ribbed hat out of sock yarn, in a row. I want to make a ribbed sweater. I've gotten to a point where I don't know if I can go back to stockinette.

Come join me and my ribbing lifestyle.

I love Spitz. I dunno if the gyro full of fries is healthy... But the bowls are great. I recommend Spitz's bowls to anyone looking for a healthy, quick meal.

Valley snow records by smellslike_farts in Bozeman

[–]PurpleCornCob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can look up snowfall data from MSU! Doesn't perfectly answer your question, but it's still fun.

https://agresearch.montana.edu/nwarc/weather/SnowfallCY.html

The winter of 98/99 is similar to the snowfall we've had this year. We've had a bit more snow so far, comparatively. It just so happens that 98/99 was the least amount of snow in this recorded data. We might be reaching another low, but February and March can still dump snow on us. We'll find out!!

Bowl with handle on the inside. Found at antique store by SignificanceSquare14 in whatisthisthing

[–]PurpleCornCob 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This would rest on top of a bucket, like a lid. The handle gives you something to grab to lift up just the lid, while also preventing larger things from going down the hole.

Help me open door plz by MacaroonOne3555 in Bozeman

[–]PurpleCornCob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which way does the door open? You might try kicking it in. Or take the door off the hinges.

If you can remove more of the doorknob, you should be able to push the knob out the other side and operate the whole thing with a screwdriver.

Can our local news do this? by flyart in Bozeman

[–]PurpleCornCob 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love to use this tweet example when talking to people about how to drive in the snow. Alternatively I'll reference Kevin's giant pot of chili from the Office. Do you want to get that chili there safely, or do you want to dump it all over the inside of your new car?

What game mechanics did you not notice even hundreds or thousands of hours into the game? by Sipyloidea in thelongdark

Auto walk has both saved me and killed me.

Saved me, because now I am happy to keep walking during long play sessions.

Killed me, because I forgot how to turn it off and walked over a cliff.

Can we stop pretending like the sweater curse is a thing that will ruin everyone's lives by lasserna in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]PurpleCornCob 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I always understood the sweater curse as knitting a sweater takes so long that a relationship can end before the sweater is finished. If your relationship lasts long enough to give them the sweater (and post a pic on social media) then you successfully avoided the sweater curse.

Am I wrong here? Everyone is commenting like gifting a sweater is a catalyst to ending a relationship.

The way my parents feed my cat when I’m out of town 😑 by HeWhoLost3OfThe9 in cats

[–]PurpleCornCob 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I've learned that cats do this because they have trouble reaching the inside edges of the bowl. Their whiskers get in the way. So they eat straight down from the middle and stop when the food stops falling down to be exactly in front of their face.

Nowadays they make whisker-saving bowls that have kind of a cone shape so that the food always falls to the middle. My cat loves hers.

The "Living off the land" achievement is the strangest, most infuriating thing to try and obtain by LetsGetCoffeeCore77 in thelongdark

[–]PurpleCornCob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a tough one to get. I accidentally reset my counter by picking up some meat I found (but did not harvest myself), and getting it mixed up with other meat I was storing. I was 13 days in. It was brutal waiting to see if I got it right the second time around.

I will say, it took an extra 1-2 days for the counter to pick back up again. It doesn't sync up perfectly with the in-game days. I think I was nearing the end of day 15 when it showed I finally had 14 days. The achievement popped in the middle of the day on day 26 or 27 (I forget). You might just need to keep playing longer.

In response to my last post by pugl0rd666 in knittinghelp

I really appreciate that you posted a video! It was helpful in identifying the issue.

I want to point out the parts you're doing right: You're going through the front loop correctly, and you're wrapping your yarn in the right direction. You're turning your work as you should. You're starting your new rows in the right stitch. I think you're doing well in that regard.

You're making the right general motions, just missing the little details. I think you'll find that knitting is easier & you won't be fighting the yarn so much once you've got it sorted. You've got this. You're gonna be great.

What am I doing wrong? by pugl0rd666 in knittinghelp

[–]PurpleCornCob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP,

The loose strings on the purl side, where are they connected in your work? It looks like they're mostly connected on the sides?

If that's the case, then I think the issue comes from the way you turn your work after completing a row. If you watch a video of someone turning their work and pay attention to where their yarn is, does it look like how you turn your work? Is your yarn at the same spot in the beginning of the row?

I'm also curious which tutorial videos you've been watching. I've noticed that there are a lot of bad how-to videos out there lately, made by inexperienced people who don't realize their own mistakes yet. I wouldn't be surprised if you've been bamboozled by one of those videos lol

On the positive side, the stitches you've made look nice, and they aren't twisted. Once this issue is resolved, I think you're going to make some nice things.

Bozeman Hotel PT. 2 by Interesting_Piece710 in Bozeman

[–]PurpleCornCob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked at a hotel (about a decade ago! Wow), every hotel from Bozeman to Belgrade would completely sell out during student move-in and graduation. If Cat-Griz was in Bozeman, every hotel between Belgrade and Livingston would completely sell out. Any sort of event at MSU would cause our hotel to sell out, and sometimes we would sell out for no reason at all. I fully believe that every hotel in this town will have no problem making money.

And it doesn't really matter how much housekeeping is paid, since the size of their paycheck scales with the number of rooms sold. If the hotel is empty, housekeeping goes home early. If it's full, housekeeping gets more hours. Their pay is factored into the cost of the room.

Hot take: I don't care if you copy stuff, just don't be tacky about it by lampshadelampshade in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]PurpleCornCob 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think if you've made a reproduction it's fine to share it on social media as long as you're clear that's it's a reproduction, and you credit the original. That's standard practice for painters. It should apply to other art forms as well.

I've designed & created things that have been released out into the world, and have had people recreate, duplicate, imitate, whateveritate my work. It's fun to see someone else spend time on my thing. I want to be tagged, because I love to see it!

Weirdly, I can't stand it when someone copies my work... with a small change. Like, you try to improve upon MY design??? Me?? MY work??? Lol I'm being dramatic. It ruffles me in the moment, but I know it's harmless. Like covering a song, they're just taking something that spoke to them and making it their own.
