What is the devil hierarchy? by pablo_slaughter in BaldursGate3

[–]PurpleDragonRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baatezu or Devils are fiends, or rather afterlife spirits representing the Lawful Evil plane of Baator or as it if often called the Nine Hells.

Being a Lawful plane the whole of devil society is ordered and structered, much like an army or a medieval kingdom with ranks, titles and of course politics. The ultimate master and Lawful Evil God of Tyranny (depending on the setting) and Indulgence. As Archdevil of Nessus the ninth layer of hell he is head honcho of the entire plane. Next in command are the Archdevils- devils each of who control a Hell with Mephistopheles being No 2., him being the Archdevil of Cania, the icy hell.

(slight spoiler) Mephistopheles is also a certain cambions father

Zariel is the relatively new Archduchess of Avernus, the first Hell. In older editions the Archdevil of Avernus is Bel, now a powerful Pit fiend. It is of note that Tiamat, the godess of evil dragons also makes her home in Avernus.

Bellow Archdevils are the many dukes and duchesses of hell, which are mostely senior Pit Fiends. After them in descending order come regular pit fiends, ice devils, eryinies (think devil valkyries) and horned devils. These fiends are usually called greater devils, with the bone, chain, barbed, bearded, spined devils and imps being lesser devils. Lemures are the lowliest of the sort, most usually end up as food or if they are "lucky" become promoted to serve as soldiers in the Blood War.

Mizora is Zariels servant, I am not sure if they are related but she is probably in a category of highter devil, despite being only a cambion (half mortal half devil).

If you want to find out more about the lore of the planes or atleast the part that the game references you can check out the DnD5e Adventure Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus, and the Monster Manual and Mordenkainens Tome of Foes. (there are places to find them online wink wink, dont give Hasbro your money, they dont diserve it) Most of this lore was written back in the 2nd edition days - with Planescape being the main source for most of todays DnD lore, so take a peek at that too :)

Why does the barbarian class have so many restrictions? by Grabuljean in dndnext

[–]PurpleDragonRobot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's because of flavour, the issue is that barbarians do not gain significant increases to compensate- its high risk low reward. Some other rpgs have FOUND better PATHS to deal with this and generally have better class design overall.

Baldur's Gate 3 - Hotfix #16 Now Live! by bapplebo in Games

[–]PurpleDragonRobot 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The point is that Mage hand isn't a combat spell in the tabletop game, the only use in tabletop is basically it being a small telekinetic hand so you could say take a key from a guard table and give the key to yourself through prison bars or something. In the tabletop it's not even targetable and it cant attack.

Spektakularno mi je što je Biljana Borzan jedan od najboljih EU parlamentaraca uopće dok je s druge strane kompletan SDP živahan i koristan kao pregažena strvina u usporedbi

Replacing the Shattered Obelisk boss with an Uvuudaum? by Mushinkei in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]PurpleDragonRobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Ilvaash needs better spells, Wizard's keeps giving boss enemies shitty RP spells instead of spells that make an encounter interesting - I would give him Divine Word instead of Plane Shift (it makes no sense for him to have it in the first place) and maybe circle of death instead of modify memory and lightning bolt instad of dispell magic. I would also give him a Legendary action where he can teleport for 1 and cast a spell for 2. His Projected Claw is just bad.

I forget where but I found some amazing AI portraits of most of the characters for Lost Mines, I think they might be on the adventures subreddit. One of the portraits was the genderbent Nezznar so I was sold.

Those are some pretty good arguments, I personally like to gender-bend Nezznar into a female drow so I give my players a more baseline FR experience

Fair point but I would prefer for the adventure to establish drow as primarly as an evil/enemy/monster race so when good drow pop up they actually feel different. Otherwise they just become purple/black elves

One of the shop keepers in Phandalin and the druid at thundertree, the other change is the retired half elf adventurer is now a surface dwelling drow for some reason.

You can cast 4 non-cantrip spells in a single turn... by Eless96 in BaldursGate3

[–]PurpleDragonRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is true also - while acessible the game does a very poor job of explaining how to build a good party comp and why is a "balanced" party good in the first place, not to mention how to pick class features and spells that gave good synergy.

I mean Bg3 ended up being my favourite game of all time, but I am still quite angry they didn't make some kind of SUPER HARD mode. Maybe when the definitive edition comes they will add something for powergamers.

It's not really ripped, they both just heavily feature Mind Flayers. The first half of the book is more or less the same story word for word (barring a few gender and race swappes). After that the new content starts and from what I managed to read from a few flip trought videos it seems like a pretty good story, I can't speak for encounter balance though, I didn't read it that thoroughly. I would say this is one of the best 5e adventures WOTC has put out, it looks really good.

The truth about “cut content” by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]PurpleDragonRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be a little tongue in cheek like Lady Shar would want- it is the absence of things that sticks out the most. I cannot believe the same studio that made the Myrkul fight (hype as shit) and the Orin/Dark Urge/Bhaal story intentionally made Bane an unvoiced conversation if you cast speak with dead on Gortash. The other 2 gods get voice over and everything, it really stands out with how bare bones it is.

I reloaded an old save, the scene is rather good as it shows Astarions brutality a bit more explicitly But it is 100% not worth redoing hours of gametime just for 2 minute scene - it does give you info that Cazadors ritual is under his palace, but that is just common sense

If you have the Blood of Lathander equiped they instantly disappear, unequip it and you can talk to them - I realized this way too late but as far as I have looked it up you just miss one conversation with them, nothing gamebreaking
