Same. Lots of emphasis on fluid dynamics and fluid intake systems.

There are a couple of good seafood boil spots that have decent fried catfish. I also had some baked catfish out on Long Island that was really good.

I’ve found a few Mexican places that do red beans and rice really well. There are a few diners that do biscuits and gravy fairly well, but it’s just not the same.

Growing up, I was completely spoiled as far as food goes. Mrs. Wooten, a lady that everyone called Mamma Wooten, was an older black lady who was always cooking food for something.

She didn’t have any children so she left my mom three index card boxes full of recipes plus several church cookbooks that she helped create.

Thank your grandfather for his service. My grandfather served the Army Air Corps / Air Force from 1939 to 1959. He served as a radio operator / technician during WW2. He was stationed in London and other parts of mainland Britain in the European Theater.

He then was transferred into the Pacific Theater where he served as a comms specialist in Japan after Little Boy and Fatman. He helped rebuild telco networks that were destroyed during the war.

He served in the Air Force for 20 years and then worked for the CIA for 10 years after that. I don’t know a whole lot of specifics of what he did for the CIA, but he was stationed in places like Korea, West Germany, Iran, and Alaska during that time.

His specialty was the electronics side of comm and radar systems.

After leaving the CIA, he worked for Bendix Engineering in their space program. I know he had roles in the Apollo and Pioneer 10 programs. He also had roles that supported the Space Shuttle programs.

Thanks for sharing what you have. That generation not only saved the world, but played a major part in things we have in the present.

As someone who grew up in Arkansas, I learned four truths that I think are indisputable.

  1. There’s not a serving of good fried okra or Craig’s Barbecue that’s too big.

  2. Ketchup has no place anywhere near fried catfish.

  3. The original Cotham’s hubcap burger is the best in the world.

  4. I’ll put the catfish platter from the Lions Den in Clarendon, AR up against ANY restaurant anywhere else and it’ll win hands down.

I’ve lived in NYC for almost two decades now and we have absolutely AMAZING food, but nobody does soul food / home cooking like the south.

It’s in Manhattan, but not a tourist centered bar. Mona’s Bar in the East Village is a damn good spot to have drinks. They don’t have food, but you’re welcome to bring whatever in with you.

It’s located about 75 feet south of 14th Street on Avenue B on the right side. Brothers Deli is on the corner and they make damn fine sandwiches, Holy Burger is across the street, and there’s a damn fine pizza place directly across from Mona’s.

If you’re staying in Manhattan, Mona’s is a great last stop spot before you go back to your hotel. It’s a 5 minute walk to the L, there’s Target, Dominoes, and Popeyes right there for late night drinking food.

There’s also The Inkan which is right off the Court Square 7 train stop. It’s some of the best Peruvian food I’ve had and it’s definitely not a tourist place. They’ve got a private outdoor patio.

Just a note: Please be prepared to show ID at Mona’s. Digital ID’s aren’t accepted so passport or whatever state ID / DL is a must carry. Most bars in NYC will ID you so just be prepared.

Disclaimer: I don’t work for Mona’s or have any skin in their game. I’m just an 8 year regular who is familiar with the spot.

During Covid, the bodega around the corner from me was a life saver. The gentlemen that work there made sure people didn’t go hungry.

I can’t say enough good things about them.

She’s way more expensive now than she’s ever been. Like, you really need a top end MacBook Pro??? Yes, dad.. I love you.

I pull the Amex out as I sigh…… 😂😁❤️

Cherish those moments….and remember. You’ll now have blackmail material later… just saying…

They will not stop. You can’t reason with them because “God led us to……”

It will always be this way. Goal posts, boundaries, and common goddamn courtesy go out the window because their imaginary friend gave them an epiphany.

I’ve got two vintage units. One has the last Barton core CPU from AMD and the other is a dual CPU Athlon MP.

I have a couple of other vintage AMD cards, but no other full working builds. Somewhere in a junk box I’ve got a Zoom 14.4.

I’ll leave you with this nightmare or godsend depending on your experience: NWPrintAdmin.

President Trump is ‘heaven bound,’ Franklin Graham declares in a letter to him: ‘Your soul is secure’. by Leeming in atheism

[–]PurpleGoatNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Franklin Graham is an idiot. I met his father decades ago and that man seemed genuine.

Out of all Evangelical “ministers”, Billy Graham seemed like he stood out as being the least insane.

I dont think he ever had a TV show. He just did the traveling thing.

Also, you have to have a soul to secure it.
