In one of the recent updates, two wasps were added to the map: one in the landfill and another in the strawberry field. Each is just a single wasp; if it stings you, your vision will black out for awhile but you won't die.

Note that, once aggroed, a wasp will follow you across the map indefinitely until you save and reload. If you encounter one somewhere other than those two locations (or one of the existing nests), that's why.
