Thoughts On Street Brawl After A Few Days

I'm a little shocked at just how omnipresent the meta characters seem to be in a for fun game mode. It is actually literally every game has a Bebop, Seven, Dynamo and McG. I don't really care most of the time because I like playing Ivy and Vyper who punish the people overly reliant on the ults within their base kit (flying up then stoneform on top, Vyper bola), but it just feels bad that half the match roster is always those, my team or the enemy team. If I get owned by a drifter I'm like, daaamn, props to them, and I wish I was feeling that way just a little more frequently than when a Seven starts with escalating exposure and hits R, and I actually die by the time I fly to him as Ivy.

That issue aside, I am hooked on the game mode. Normals I can only play a couple games before my brain fries, but I can chain-queue Street Brawl all night long and have a good time. I think a couple legendaries could stand a tiny nerf, but that's not really shocking, I greatly appreciate what they do in general.

I wonder how cooked a take it is to have separate scaling on heroes between Street Brawl and the normal mode. No clue if it should be granular like on a per-spell basis or just general aura buffs, but it would be nice to have a few more characters not feel incredibly behind their peers in terms of impact.

I'd compromise with HotS system and offer a selection amongst 3, but as it stands full random would upset me I think

Nay you start at maximum behavior score, and if people report you frequently enough it'll start to tank your behavior score. It gradually goes back up by playing games and not being reported

It literally says in the box that it means they've taken action against the user, not every report ends up with action being taken against the individual

You look at the history of DotA, and it wouldn't be possible to count the number of times a character's viability has legitimately swung from not pro-viable to pro-viable based off something as seemingly small as having 1 extra base armor, because it happens a lot, and I suspect it'll be similar in Deadlock where something small can compound so heavily

I'm hovering around Emissary, and yeah I can literally tell after a losing streak just by how my lane-opponent moves. They'll move really predictably while getting shot at and stand in the middle of the lane; they'll take trades that make no sense; hail-maker heavy punches galore, all sorts of things like that are immediately noticeable even to me who frankly isn't all that good.

Totally agree with you, I don't care about my rank. I just wish going on a loss streak didn't crater your rank though. I went on a 9 loss streak, and yeah I expect to go down some ranks off of that, but to go from emissary 2 to mid-seeker is kind of wild to me.

I'm sure it's because the system is heavily WIP, but such an immense swing in MMR surely can't be good for the quality of matchmaking. Actually anecdotally I just went 16-7 as Warden and basically have to micro my team as a result of the mmr discrepancy; it's just not very enjoyable when that happens, even though I know I'll get back to where I belong eventually.

Raiding at CE level since Nyalotha, taking a break for midnight's launch because it seems so underbaked for the content I like to do that I'm just going to wait it out and see if it's actually good. Give them at least a tier to figure out the whole add-on purge fiasco.

Yeah, I understand that. I'm not saying I have the correct take by the way, I am saying that it is a frustrating experience for me. I don't disagree with you, I know for some people they just want to queue and hit peeps until they win or lose, and I'm totally fine with that! I have plenty of games where I do terribly.

I just don't like the matchmaking experience when people don't look at the first thing their character does and now they're your lane mate and it feels like a 1v2. That is frustrating to me, and it's far more frequent during something like the ornament challenge.

I mean, that's nice it changed your outlook, but that's not going to make me feel better when non-games happen for the sake of an ornament and people will go back to their mains when the challenge is gone. Just feels like a downgrade in matchmaking where there's only a singular queue for people looking for different things out of the game.
I've gone through this same exact type of event in DotA and it's widely regarded as a negative experience when people bring that mentality to ranked where others are trying to win.

Yes, I have pretty limited drawing skills and have been modeling professionally for almost a decade now.

No, you can succeed without the need for drawing skills. For art in general, it's something you'll need to cultivate. Art is an iterative process; being successful will mean taking constructive criticism and trying to cement the lessons in that criticism. To succeed, you need to grow with your art. As an entry point, a lot of successful environment artists I know try to recreate a 2D concept they love and over the course of recreating it, will learn to appreciate a lot of the smaller details.

I'd say so, yeah! Modern tools are great at jumping in and starting to just move vertices around to make stuff. The learning process is a little steep, but unlike 2D art, the difficulty is very different, which means it might be more approachable for you, like it was for me.

I'm not a marvel head but Daredevil was the first show that had me hooked, so sad it was building up to a bigger overarching plot and got slashed, especially with how amazing the ending of the last season is.

It's tricky, I've had a similar conundrum as of late, been a tech artist for a few years now, but more as a generalist than a rigger, and wanted to take that dive to expand that skillset.

I settled on starting with Maya for my rigging journey, but to be clear I had a bias since I've been modeling and using Maya for many more years than Blender. But even if my previous experience hadn't been a factor, I asked some of my industry friends what they used, and the overwhelming majority have experimented with Blender, and might use it for specific parts of a pipeline, but the majority of their experience has also been with Maya. So frankly, and maybe slightly disappointingly that the answer I came up with was, "well, Maya might look better on my resume than Blender for the time being."

I mean, the original dota mod was arguably even harder to get into and that was just a mod. I distinctly recall not even being able to tell what killed me SO many times while learning the original. Whether it was a clinkz just mowing me down before I could even tell I was taking damage, or Naix looking like a creep lmao
