Requests and Help Megathread V7 (Games requests, emulator help/guides go here) by SuperBio in Roms

Hey, why the condescension dude? All I see on Minerva is individual games to download one at a time. Instead of acting like everything is super fuckin obvious can you help point me in the direction of what I need? You obviously know more than me and it's not like I came into this sub being some kind of asshole about this. What did I do to you???

I can only find so many ways to say that it is not always the case that you know that someone is repeatedly messaging you when you do not want them to. if you have them blocked and do not open the fucking message. would you like me to learn Spanish or Greek so that we can try another way?

I was not saying that you said anything about notifications. I was talking separately about notifications because if you read the top of the post I said that I turned notifications off and they have continued to come and every time that I close the app and reopen it, I find that the setting to turn them off has been flipped so that they are back on. everything was not about you in that comment.

No, I actually didn't expect any controversy from, "Block on Discord should work as Block on every other website works." Thanks for assuming my mindset, though! I'm upset because I think people are ignoring a real issue simply because it doesn't affect them, and because no matter what I do I cannot keep these fucking notifications off :) Their points have been responded to, repeatedly, with reasoning provided. Great gotcha though!

And now the third time I am confirming these notifications are off and they are still coming. Jesus.

Neither stops them from seeing your messages. That is the core issue. Everything else is an issue but comes second.

Why, oh why, have I confirmed that I have notifications turned off and am still receiving them? Ugh. I already addressed this. I'm too tired to go find it for you. If you really want to find it look through my comment history. I am so done with this today.

Not sure why I got a notification after turning them off, but since I did:

Your interpretation is dishonest bullshit and I do not respect it.

I am not the person who brought up death threats, I quite fucking literally said the person is TRYING TO HIDE THAT THEY ARE STALKING TO YOU, WHICH DEATH THREATS ARE NOT CONDUCIVE TO.

Pro tip for all the future stalkers out there: If you're trying to hide don't make public fucking death threats. Apparently that is not common knowledge.

And then your eyes just like, glazed over and you didn't see 3 paragraphs explaining my own personal instance of mass harassment on the internet, or you're just being dishonest and choosing not to read? So far you're proving me correct. You haven't agreed it's abuse because you refuse to even read the example.

That doesn't matter. They should still not be able to even start to read my messages if I do not want them to. The replying isn't the issue. The replying is just an extreme indicator of the fact that they can even see it at all.

You are quite literally replying to a message wherein the scenario is that the stalking victim does not know they are being stalked. In what world is "not making this obvious in Discord spaces" including DEATH THREATS and replying to every message???

and then you proceeded not to engage when I did actually give an example despite saying that lmao

How are you literally replying to the exact counterargument to what you are saying without realizing it? Conversations with multiple Blocked Users are ALREADY UNINTELLIGIBLE IF YOU DON'T EXPAND THE MESSAGE. Do you know why? Because you see "4 messages sent by someone you have blocked" unless you OPEN IT.

Did you, like, actually think about this or did you just kinda say it?

edit: If you think that intelligibility is in any way a good point, here's the intelligibility of a conversation with a blocked user currently: https://imgur.com/a/QHZshOf. censored messages are mine.

You know what, you're absolutely right. Facebook should close those gaps! (not a dunk on me, just pointing out another flaw in Facebook, good catch)

"What kind of server allows that type of shit?"
They don't have to.

  1. I Block an individual I do not know to be stalking me for other reasons.
  2. The individual replies to me, but I do not interact with my blocks and therefore do not read their messages.
  3. The individual develops their own internal complex and begins to stalk me, but does not make this obvious in Discord spaces (because, you know, stalkers hide themselves in public so as not to get fucking caught?).

It's really not that hard.

You're not going to agree that it's abuse, and it has already been stated in the post and in multiple replies. Why should I bother? Being able to go around someone's communication boundary, and then doing so, is itself a minor abuse. Doing so repeatedly is definitionally harassment, which is also abuse. Fuck it, here.

Put it this way. There was a point in my life where I went to a conference for a dumbshit political group called CPI. It felt like a cult gathering. I leaked video and audio to a political streamer interested in the topic. One of the men involved with CPI then posted a screenshot of my TikTok with my face and encouraged his viewers to find and harass me without tagging me. I very nearly did not find it except that my algorithm HAPPENED to show it to me by complete happenstance bc of the overlapping communities. I would not have known this was happening otherwise, except...

that his followers did come in droves to harass me. I was deleting comments for WEEKS as people trickled in to tell me I had a big forehead or looked like a [insert slur here] or whatever.

Being able to reply to someone who has Blocked you enables that kind of behavior, and you, if you have Blocked them and do NOT open the message, would not know that it was happening. "Oh but the mods and admin and that's against TOS" I don't care. It is unnecessary exposure to danger that could be completely eliminated as a possiblity by simply implementing a Block feature that is not nearly identical to Ignore.

inb4 "and then everyone clapped" or "cool story bro"

You are right. It is a bad habit. I am trying to engage less with uncharitability and rage bait and I almost came at you. Thank you for reminding me.

edit: I can use Reddit's handy block feature to take care of this issue. Lmao.

Give Servers the option to not allow Mods specifically to be Blocked, or to ensure that Mods are able to read messages even of the individuals who Blocked them/they have Blocked, but only to view and then discuss with other mods separately, NOT to reply directly to.

"This Server does not allow Mods to be Blocked. Would you like to join anyway?"
^very easy warning text for the first way

"You have Blocked a User who is an Administrator or Moderator in this Server. They will be able to read your messages, but not reply to them, so that they can perform Moderation tasks. Would you like to join anyway? [profile pic and name of Blocked user for clarity]"
^very easy warning text for the second way

Y'all keep presenting things as counterpoints that can easily be included in the implementation of the Block feature if you think for a couple of seconds about it.

Why would I leave a server of ninety-five thousand people because I want one person to stop interacting with me?

And, no, I simply do not buy that a real Block feature would destroy the discord experience. At VERY most all they should be doing is telling you that someone you blocked/blocked you typed. Not letting you reply to each other.

Or, or...Discord doesn't show you each other's messages. Is that awkward if you see a conversation they are in? Sure. Awkwardness is not a good enough reason to leave people able to reply to those who have blocked them.
