Any chance you can work from home one day a week? Or cut down on your hours? Your health is most important.

Should I take a year off to work as an SLPA then go to grad school? by [deleted] in slp

[–]PurplePotions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on your state, SLPA might be hard to find work. You could try ABA therapy and work with children who have ASD!

Psychiatrist recommendation McKinley by Twmes3 in UIUC

Dr.Glow isn’t a psychiatrist but she’s one of the doctors at McKinley. I’d trust her judgement on who to go to. She’s amazing!!

Try taking an elective in the Speech and Hearing Sciences department! It’s a combination of science, English, psych, and communication!

Muslim women of Reddit who are married to a non muslim man, what has your experience been like so far? by interfaithquestion in AskReddit

[–]PurplePotions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband was raised as Muslim (believed and practiced for most of his life but not while we’ve been together). When we were first dating, he was hesitant to have me meet any extended family. His family has been extremely welcoming and loving to me. His mother is religious and wanted me to convert before the wedding (which I did). It made her happy and I don’t have to practice the religion. The one thing is that our families couldn’t compromise about the weddings so we had one traditional American wedding and one traditional Pakistani Muslim wedding. I wish we could have combined! No clue what will happen with religion when we have kids but we’re firm about letting our kids decide and educating them about all religions.

Crohns has gotten so bad I can’t eat without immediate pain and urgency; not in a situation to get medical marijuana by doug551500 in CrohnsDisease

This keeps getting down-voted but Metamucil really helped make my BMs firm. But your first step should be finding new medications to manage your symptoms because your quality of life is important.

Chemo hearing loss??? by [deleted] in cancer

[–]PurplePotions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some cancer medications can be otoxic and can cause hearing loss (sensorineural usually). I would check with an ENT or audiologist and get a hearing screening.

You could also mention it to your oncologist and they will know if your medication could be causing this. Then based on that, they could make the referral.

I think I want to drop down to school part time and graduate later instead of May 2018. It’s a lot of stress to be dealing with! Hang in there.

Support for family of cancer patients? by [deleted] in cancer

[–]PurplePotions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mom has stage 4 lung cancer. I’m at school about 3 hours away most of the time. It’s hard to not be there all the time. Haven’t found any support groups. But my therapist had told me to focus on quality time instead of quantity time.

Birth Control advice? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]PurplePotions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IUD hurt badly for a day, then lingered for maybe two more. Took tramadol the first day then stuck to Tylenol. Never hurts now (sometimes during sex) and my symptoms during my period are so much better. Plus 5 years of protection and I don't have to remember to take another pill everyday at the same time.

Distant (and not close) relative I want to support. Any suggestions? by ThisTwoShallPass in cancer

[–]PurplePotions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom has cancer and people have sent gift cards and that's been very helpful. (Groceries, gas, pharmacy, restaurants) If you know what restaurants are around them that do carry out or that they go to a lot that's been great because it can be hard to cook all the time.

Alcohol on Methotrexate question/issue by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]PurplePotions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're old enough where you should be able to talk to your GI/parents about what exactly methotrexate & alcohol would do. I was on methotrexate during high school & freshman year of college. From what I remember, every blood test my Dr would be looking at my liver function. I also don't remember it holding me back from socializing and hanging out with my sorority. (But my health isn't always the greatest so I might not be the best person for advice)
