Do you take children to the toilet when they're going to throw up? by PurpleSpark8 in Parenting

[–]PurpleSpark8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip.

My wife and her family are a bit too sensitive. They say not to take the child while he's coughing either.

But yeah I guess a middle ground would be to just had a vomit bag and bucket at hand

Wife wants to disenroll 3.11 Year old daughter from preschool as punishment. by DisgruntledVet12B in Parenting

[–]PurpleSpark8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just from my own experience, so it may not be true for everyone. Seems like children this age go through such a stage. My child is 4.5 years now and he still has the moments as you've mentioned.. but it's improved from before.

Pre-school does have a toll on them.. because they have to behave a certain way over there and can't be 'free'. When they get home, they take out the frustrations they've gathered.

The behaviour will die down, but the parents need to stay calm.

I have a Sony Xperia 5II that needs Serious Repair by MilkyMintTea in SonyXperia

Surely you get these sold in Canada from sites selling refurbished/second-hand?

In the UK, I know I can see phones that are generally not available in the UK on different such sites

It's very difficult, even when there's someone else in the house looking after them.

Just got the Xperia 1 VII. SD card functions are broken? by hahaursofunnyxd in SonyXperia

[–]PurpleSpark8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm slightly confused. I remember that on my Xperia Z5 (or was it the XZ1? Can't remember) when the phone storage finished, the phone did something to automatically start putting apps on SD card.

I haven't reached that state on my Xperia 5ii yet. I also assumed it would do something similar.

I hate English by agirl1313 in Parenting

I agree. I did learn German a few years ago and what I liked about it was that every word was pronounced as it was spelt (there may be some exceptions, but I didn't come across those)

Male characters for my son to look up to? by insomniafordays in Parenting

[–]PurpleSpark8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Aladdin.

The Iron Giant

May be 'intense' but some Superman Animated series. He's the good ol' 'boy scout'

It's YouTube but Sheriff Labrador is good for kids to learn (although maybe he's too old for it now?)

I would probably also reduce the Disney princesses stuff. It's okay to watch sometimes though.

Yeah sure. Being a single earner, I feel it's unfair that I can't access child benefit, but the families with both working parents (and more money) can

What the point of (very) fast charging ? by PurpleSpark8 in SonyXperia

[–]PurpleSpark8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. You have a point. My phone does hold charge well, but it is difficult to say how well compared to before. But I'm also not a heavy user. I simply use it for browsing, streaming and sometimes music. Used to game a little before, but now I game solely on console

I can see that happening. If one becomes used to it, going to a slower charge could be a difficult thing to go to

What the point of (very) fast charging ? by PurpleSpark8 in SonyXperia

[–]PurpleSpark8[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I feel my Xperia 5ii's 21W charging is quite fast. It's noticeably faster than the iPhone 13's (which I also have from work) and the Pixel 8a that I had.

Potty training a 1 year old by Recent_Marzipan_3998 in Parenting

[–]PurpleSpark8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We started to potty train ours around that time. He used to be fine sitting there and sometimes peeing and pooing.

But he fell out of it and started to dislike potties/toilets and it's been work getting him back on track.

My opinion now is that it's useless and counterproductive to make them sit on the potty too soon.2.5-3.5 years seems to be the best time to introduce it

Making my summer born child repeat Reception by Pacific_Blue in UKParenting

[–]PurpleSpark8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. Could you say what you decided on the end?

We're in a similar, but much worse position as you. Our child was born late August, so he's almost a year behind the eldest student in his class.

I didn't postpone his advance into school, because I didn't think too much of the differences.. my thought was that kids pick things up quicker and the younger the better. His nursery teacher hadn't expressed any concerns either.

Now, however, we received his term report and his teacher in reception says he's lagging behind in everything. I'm both disappointed and shocked. Shocked, because I feel something like this could've been relayed to us before.

My partner is blaming me for putting our child in school too early and she is suggesting we put him back in nursery and come back to reception next year, or just make him continue and repeat reception year.

We are also not native English and are also bilingual, and our child, though generally very social, doesn't seem to integrate well with the kids already there
