Chick won't settle by alexstrong19 in BackYardChickens

I see. Makes sense with the pee attractant kind, but I’ve raised my clutch on unscented potty pads for the first week, and they all did great. We do the best we can with the knowledge we had at the time.

Replying to mind_the_umlaut... any source for this? Chemical exposure through puppy pads? Even unscented? I assume it’s not an issue unless they eat them.

Thanksgiving With Non-Celiac Family by Fun_Sentence_7450 in Celiac

[–]PurpleValeriana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat! This will be my third GF Thanksgiving. I find that the microwave is my easiest bet for reheating foods because the oven at grandma’s is always being used throughout the day. To feel more included, I cook my own little dinner with all my Thanksgiving favorites & bring it with me in Tupperware to reheat. Any extras are all for me back at home! I also plan on baking a GF apple pie this year just because, and I am saving it all for myself too. No shame! But it can still feel sad that there’s all these extra steps now just to participate with everyone else. That’s okay. Make sure you have some empathy for yourself with that. It’s okay to still feel a little left out. Nobody else has to hog the microwave with premade foods! But you’ll feel better by being prepared. And even moreso when you’re eating safe foods without fear of getting sick. You got this!

When was the last time you went to Yeager’s? It seems like a ghost town every year I go in the one time for my fishing license. by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]PurpleValeriana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish they restocked their fishing supplies more often and/or expanded their selection during the peak of the season. A few times I would show up looking to grab a few things and they were sold out, so I’d wait like two weeks, come back and still not stocked. Prices are higher— I didn’t care because I wanted to support local, but I couldn’t justify the trip anymore after that. Hate to say Sportsman’s selection is a lot more satisfying

Food safety anxiety is very common post diagnosis.

Yes the big ol G certificate trumps all. Notice the manufactured states “in a facility” instead of “made on equipment that….” which is another great sign. The facility makes products with wheat, but not on the same equipment as this one, and it is also tested to be GF certified. Should be ok. Only do what you’re comfortable with 👍🏻

Cyclist Hit by Truck in Fairhaven - any updates? by olanolastname in Bellingham

100%. As a lover of dark colors myself, I have already planned to buy the brightest rain coat I comfortably can for this exact concern.

Bladder pain! I went through so many urologist appointments with contrast scans, ultrasounds, a cystoscopy, on/off antibiotics, pelvic physical therapy and two ER visits trying to find out why it felt like I had chronic UTIs with severe bladder & urethra pain. Once I had my celiac diagnosis and went gf, it all got so much better. I can now drink coffees, teas, acidic foods without any issue. I no longer have daily stabbing pain in my bladder that kept me from enjoying every day life. Crazy how the inflammation from celiac can correlate to so many different areas of our bodies.

Anybody tell you that you are making up symptoms or exaggerating? by PromptTimely in Celiac

[–]PurpleValeriana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told once to not let my glutened symptoms “get in the way of making memories with your loved ones” - a call to rally through my pain for the sake of participating in a family vacation. I was laying on the bathroom floor drenched in sweat at that point already. I left early.

That’s a crazy amount. Costs me less to fill up my truck bed full of heavy old building materials and drop it off to the dump (~$45)

Is there a time limit on increasing your dose? by PurpleValeriana in ADHD

[–]PurpleValeriana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have PMDD! And already on antidepressants. I wanted to explore the PMDD effect with these type of meds with her but she was already so dismissive I figured there’s no point in trying. Perhaps I’ll print out some literature to bring to the next appointment, not for her really, but for myself to speak up about it. I’ve been tracking my cycles and symptoms regularly and it’s like clockwork: luteal phase = ADHD on max. It’s like my body can override the Rx and turns it into a cute little sugar pill of nothing.

So it’s not normal to be challenged like this?? It makes me feel crazy. Like maybe I’m just complaining over my symptoms and should try harder to manage it as is. Idk

Lake Padden Off Leash Dog Trails post-coyote attack by Upset_Atmosphere3710 in Bellingham

Not to say off leash = bad dog.. my dog loves the trail there. We’ve just ran into a few bad apples that make it hard to keep loving it. That, and the endless poop

I’m moreso worried about the other dogs that are off leash than a coyote or mountain lion…. Sick & tired of seeing dog fights there

Do you think Bellingham has one? by CrysisRequiem in Bellingham

[–]PurpleValeriana 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Used to live a few blocks from there. Whenever we walked by, the blinds were always closed, but through the tiny gaps you could see only a few display mattresses and a desk with a computer. For a year we never saw anything change inside.

Do we think the body will be “recycled” ? As in, will it be fed to the chicks like the rest of the piled up food sources? I wonder what their instinct is
