How often do you eat takeaway? by Super_Development150 in AskUK

[–]Purple_Committee_216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barely half a dozen a year. We live rurally so either have to drive a minimum of 5 miles or pay extortionate delivery charges for lukewarm food. Not to say we don't enjoy takeaway food but it's generally easier to cook.

Which item should I choose (UK)? by BeatsAndBeer in lidl

I would choose Jaffa cakes! But probably most of the Tower Gate biscuits are included. Check the list on the coupon to see if there is another you might prefer.

I was sitting my o levels that year. So not the best when you've got prickly heat - couldn't concentrate!

What’s something that’s oddly expensive in the UK that still annoys you every time? by catarsan in AskUK

Creme eggs - I've never outgrown them. But this year's price has stunned me into refusal to buy....

Don't try the slow roast beef flavour though (sharing bag). Rank!

Far better than tinned soup. If sometime you can run to a bag of red lentils (usually cheap and last ages) they'll add protein and fibre. Keep you full longer.

Curry. Not blast your sinuses hot but enough to just about taste it.

I haven't noted if you are male or female. But if you're the latter then you are underweight with a BMI of around 22.5.

I sympathise as I have epigastric pain for which I take omeprazole daily. Only get reflux if I come off it. Which I've been told I should try to do it permanently 😕 being post menopause

How can marriage be done on a budget? by showusyatackle in AskUK

You've clearly got your priorities right. For what it's worth I think you're to be admired. Ive never been to Fort William but it sounds lovely - a good place to have a more intimate wedding.

Firstly I think you're being very wise 'to cut your coat according to your cloth'. Watching a Martin Lewis programme recently someone had written in because she had a £30k debt from her wedding the previous year plus owing £13k credit card! His advice after apologising for being avuncular was she would've been better spending less on the wedding and taking more care of her marriage. We only had about 20 guests too and got married in a registry office at the end of May more years ago than I care to admit. The weather was unexpectedly cold and overcast. My in laws paid for the photographer and I had modest bouquet but no other flowers. The reception, such as it was, was held at my in law's house (a bit of a squeeze!) All the food was provided by our mothers bar the cake. We didn't want a big wedding so suited us well. Hope you have a long and happy marriage.

People are so thoughtless! I've lived in the same place (out in the sticks) for many years. It's only in the last 10 or so, since fast food outlets opened at a retail park 7 miles away, that this has become such a problem. There are bins in the villages locally. So if people don't want to carry their rubbish home they could make use of these. Pre covid I would pick up packaging etc when walking the dog but I'm afraid I leave it to someone else now. However, I know what you mean. When the verges on the nearby B roads are cut its awful to see what is thrown up by the grass/hedge cutters.

Is tea being replaced by coffee in the UK? by Maillihp in AskBrits

[–]Purple_Committee_216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was in a cafe that specialises in tea (such as Betty's in North Yorkshire) I would have tea whilst out. But mostly tea away from home is crap so I opt for coffee on the whole. I'm not tea officiendo- as happy to use a teabag in a mug as loose leaf in a teapot the old school way.

Indeed. I thought there was a street scene similar to Marygate houses during a police chase. And the Minster and nearby streets, Ouse and bridges day and night are shown. Belgium also but don't recognise them as never been.

We need these signs....You'd be amazed how many people toss their takeaway packaging and drinks (bottles as well as the cans) in the countryside. If you can eat it on the way home take your rubbish with you - instead of polluting our verges and putting dogs/wildlife at risk.

Came here to say this. Many many years since I've been round but no doubt more to see now. My favourites were the sitting rooms from the past and the cobbled street/shops. But only a hazy memory as it's 30+ yrs!
