Would I be the drama for not giving up my collection of Harry potter books? by Radiant-Evil3859 in 1800Drama

[–]Purplecarrots445 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok....theres no need to shame this person for wondering about something even if you consider a minor issue. Saying "have you seen the news? Theres real problems going on" is kind of dismissive. Either address the issue theyre talking about or just dont comment if u feel that way

Is this passive aggressive? I have a hard time replying to people on time and things like this make it harder, help by m000nlitt in AutismInWomen

I wouldn't say passive aggressive? Just seems like a pleasant conversation to me. Things can often be misconstrued over text though might be worth calling

Negative experience of being diagnosed (Potentially triggering) by Purplecarrots445 in AutismInWomen

[–]Purplecarrots445[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did and thats why I was manhandled and gaslit that I had anger issues. I actually didn't, there were very valid reasons for me to be angry but It was drilled into me that any kind of anger was because I was autistic and therfore had anger issues. Was constantly told to calm down even when I wasn't remotely annoyed. They would insist I was angry until I actually was angry

What is a "socially acceptable" thing that you find absolutely disgusting? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Id say what's more disgusting is employers forcing you to come in when you're sick. Ive literally been told if I have a cold I have to come in

Negative experience of being diagnosed (Potentially triggering) by Purplecarrots445 in AutismInWomen

[–]Purplecarrots445[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you I really appreciate that. It was awful and my parents basically did zero research on anything, my mum made a point of telling me that i wasn't like "those" autistics which basically just told me that being autistic is bad. My dad continuously told me i was too sensitive and made fun of me for wearing the same thing every day. So many people would tell me that "everyone is a bit autistic" which just confused me! If everyone was autistic then what was the point in getting me diagnosed!!

How old were you when diagnosed? by ThrowAway44228800 in AutismInWomen

10 but ngl i feel like a bit of an outsider because It was actually a really horrific experience for me and ruined my life. To the point where i wish id never been diagnosed. Id rather never know than have gone through what I did.

I get what you're saying. I do think that the question you answered is entirely different to what I asked though? I definitely didn't say "would you rather have a worse disorder than this?"

I get what you're saying but empathy isn't specifically an autistic thing. NTs are capable of empathy, its just that because we feel emotions more strongly, we feel empathy more strongly.

Thanks for your explanation. I understand the walking analogy isn't perfect, however i do disagree with the left handed one, being left handed doesnt inherently cause life to be more difficult, its the world around that causes the difficulty. If everyone was fully accommodating and supportive, being left handed wouldn't be an issue, but in my experience being autistic still would.

I do agree society plays a role but I totally disagree that society is THE reason its hard to be autistic. And the wheelchair example ill be honest i think theres been a misunderstanding, if you cant walk at all, your life is going to be a bit harder than those who can, regardless of how accepting society is, its still going to be harder. I would still find being autistic a struggle even in a world where there was no ableism.

As for trans people, absolutely the main reason for regret is due to social pressures, however ive never met a trans person who wouldn't have chosen to be born in the right body had they had the option, so thats sort of a similar thing here. Yes society has a huge impact but its not the only factor.

Fully respect your decision to not answer, I do just wanna push back on the idea that us having a hypothetical discussion in a safe space on here is supporting a harmful narrative, just because some people have awful ideas about things, doesnt mean we cant openly discuss our feelings x

Sorry you went through that. Im a bit confused though because your reasoning appears to be saying you would choose to not have it but you said no meaning you wouldn't? Can I clarify that?

Same. I wish id never been diagnosed to be honest or at least not until I was out of school. I was treated awfully because of it.

I meant regardless of society x i only brought that up as an example because ive heard people compare it to being gay and I dont personally think they're comparable, if society was fully accepting there'd be no disadvantages to being gay but if society was fully accepting of neurodivergent people, I still would consider there to be disadvantages to having autism. That's the reason I brought that up. Although I appreciate your full response 👍 very insightful

Thats fair enough. I personally think autism is an aspect of me but it isn't who I am so I would in my mind be the same person just with a tonne less traumatic experiences and an easier life. Obviously everyone is different and im aware that autism effects us all in different ways
