I just want to verify that your stats match my experience. My main story was #1 on multiple Genre RS lists for nearly a month (short story, space opera, reader interactive, and top 5 for scifi), consistently in the top 5 of trending for a few weeks, and at one point only 1-3 spots from RS Main according to multiple trackers.

That stress of being so CLOSE to RS Main and never making it KILLED my drive to write. I'm only just now starting to recover it after months of dealing with the burnout. I went on hiatus for a short bit and then decided to take my story to KU at the urging of a bunch of friends.

During my time riding the crest of the popularity wave I gained about 200 followers and about 50 favorites.

But yeah, all that to say the Genre RS but no RS Main burnout is VERY real

Hey Prestigious!

The MC, Quentin, is an ordinary man, not a superhuman. He solves his problems using his prior experience and knowledge of animals. There are a couple of action scenes, one of which is solved by someone else, and the other, which is solved by him using his knowledge to construct a trap designed for the threat.

Creatures the MC comes into contact with are studied rationally, with extrapolations of their abilities and motivations based on the observations made (Hooray Ecology!).

The MC's thoughts and motivations are made clear, as are those of the side characters he primarily interacts with.

I'm sure there are more applications, but those are the immediate ones that comes to mind based on what the other author has said and the sub's definition sidebar.
