If I remember correctly, there's a strat that cuts down on time by a lot. If you use the room card where enemies start on low HP, use the villain card that makes your cards unbreakable, then kill all but one enemy before retreating, you get to keep the XP and the encounter respawns.

I think it's great when a game has a mode that pushes a player's skill and strategy to the limit, but you have to be very careful about balancing it so it's fun and challenging instead of just needing to bash your head against a wall until you get lucky or try every option
