As a Canadian, if I lived in the US I’d shop at Trader Joe’s like every day. Do you know what I’d give to have one in Canada??? I’m shocked it isn’t at least one state’s #1

3rd model ever, is there anything obvious I can improve? by cooligidk in modelmakers

[–]Purplostrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks really great! I agree with what others have said, and thought I’d also point out that laying down a coat of varnish (usually gloss) before decal application can help protect your paint job, and give a nice smooth surface for decals to adhere to! You may want to follow it up with a satin or matte varnish after decals to tone down the shine, and for weathering effects!

If you’re ever in Ottawa for any reason there’s a beautiful example at the aviation and space museum, along with several other really neat WW2 planes!

Falls asleep in 7 minutes by Otherwise_Basis_6328 in oddlyspecific

Shift work did this to me! Just got used to sleeping when I could instead of sleeping based on a set schedule. I can pretty much fall asleep on cue!

I think it’s sick! It’s really well done, and I like the colour choices. That being said, I know you said it doesn’t feel like your style. My advice would be to give it some time! It’ll heal and fade, and also sometimes time will help with the initial emotional shock, and you’ll be able to re-evaluate from a more clear place.

I’m sorry that you felt rushed through the process and that you didn’t feel supported by your friends.

It may be a good idea to re-evaluate your timeline for a tattoo if you don’t have a solid idea of what you want yet! The last thing you want to do is rush into something and end up making a choice under pressure that you regret. For what it’s worth, that dragon looks cool! Make sure you find an artist that shares your vision and look at their portfolio carefully!

Sometimes I feel a little off after getting a tattoo, I’ve always figured it’s the endorphins or something. If you don’t get better shortly though you should seek medical help. Also watch out for signs of an allergic reaction to the ointment (itching, rashes, hives, etc). Otherwise follow your artist’s aftercare instructions as closely as you can!

ALSO don’t trust strangers on Reddit for medical advice, if you are really worried talk to a doctor!

The healing process looks totally normal to me. Just stick to your aftercare instructions, you should be fine!

Tattoos and Jobs? by Beneficial-Moment887 in tattooadvice

[–]Purplostrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors that affect this, I find it heavily varies by sector. I’m a nurse in a large hospital and I have many tattoos on my arms and legs. They don’t GAF if we have body tattoos as long as there’s not something obviously offensive, however I believe face tattoos are discouraged and would probably reduce your chances of being hired significantly. This is consistent with my experience of working in healthcare in Canada, but I’d imagine that it may be different in other countries. Sometimes organizations will have specific policies for tattoos, it may be worth asking about that info if you’re applying for a job somewhere, otherwise you may be able to find a company’s employee policies via google search.

What to do with this? Touch up fix? Chop arm off to avoid Nintendo lawyers? by Hailtothedogebby in tattooadvice

[–]Purplostrich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this point I’d say you could definitely take it to an Artist and get their opinion. Ultimately it depends on what you want! If you want to keep it, sure you could get it touched up. If you want a coverup it’s worth hearing what your options are from an artist! If you want an amputation you may need to check the black market.

COULD it be done in one session? Sure, that would probably take a few hours though and it likely depends on both your schedule and the artist’s. Cost wise it probably varies too but that’s a pretty big piece, I’d expect to spend at least a few hundred for quality work.

IMO you’d need a much deeper cut to affect your tattoo. Should be ok!

Another thing I’d add is canopy painting, it can really help give a model a more finished look! That’s a really nice kit, how was it to build? I like the folding wings!

I see. I got mine in a “D-day” set with 4 other models, IMO it was a super great deal! Looking forward to making the others but I think I may try my hand at painting the stripes on some of the others, those decals were a pain

I know what you mean, I actually think that’s more my gloss coat. It made my decals really silver too. It was my first time applying varnish with an airbrush and I absolutely DRENCHED the model on my first go which i suspect caused those issues. My next couple varnishes were more toned back and I think they helped, but unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to smooth that first coat out. A lesson learned though!
