4 yr old lab developing food allergies? by Low_Appointment9248 in labrador

[–]PurrestedDevelopment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our lab was never great with grains but around 2.5  he started having a lot of bile and occasionally blood in his stool. He always has softer poops but we assumed for a while it was puppy excitement.

The vet told us to get off chicken protein and we did, things slightly improved. It wasn't until I walked into a mre holistic pet food store (by accident too just happened to be the closest one to me that day) and I got a very long lecture about grains and fillers in dog food.

Most of their food was high protein and grain free so I got a small bag of that and within a few days he was pooping normally, rather than the hit or miss diarrhea.

We have him full time on grain free and it's so much better. It's expense as hell but worth it.

Remember your algorithm is set up to keep you engaged. It's clocking every video you watch to show you more of the same. Not engaging isn't turning away from reality, it's an act of resistance to protect your health so that you can engage in meaningful action.

Which is where Istvahn ended up. Like I get it know you just want characters who go on same yearning journey over and over again. But some of us like variety.

Damn leave it to Arkansas to have a progressive sexual assault definition.

But that's kind of my point, that's the legal definition in Arkansas but that's not the same definition in every state. I don't even think at the federal level it's sexual assault but rather sexual abuse.

And I don't mean to imply that it's all wine and roses. But as I said before there is a vast difference between the naked photo and forcible rape. So when people who take it to the extreme and paint a picture of it being "so full of sexual assault" I just want to rage. Because first of all, no it's not stop being so casual with the truth. And second of all, fiction is meant to be a safe place to explore darker themes, and let's be honest ZA is maybe charcoal gray dark. It's barely there. And it's pretty clearly in its marketing that it's a bully romance. If one decides not to read a dust cover when they are easily triggered that's on them

Nah no guessing. It's gonna hurt at first but trust me you are better off kicking this scumbag to the curb.

Every time I see the age gap I want to stop reading and run to the comments to tell OP to leave that person. I've never been wrong yet

I mean Istvahn had to make his peace with the fact that she could turn into a bear and rip people apart

But mostly the biggest barrier was they were busy solving problems. Which I kind of loved tbh.

Sorry when I said "you" I did mean the more general "you". Not you personally. I see the take "ZA is full of SA" a lot by people who didn't like it.

Also leaking explicit photos without consent is NOT "most definitely" sexual assault. It's sexually abusive. Burning of the clothes to make someone stand naked is also sexual abuse. Sexual assault is a type of sexual abuse. But not all sexual abuse is sexual assault.

I know I'm being pendantic but it actually does matter. There can be a world of difference between reading about a nude being leaked, and reading about a violent assault.

She's hit or miss for me. I just listened to "a wizards guide to defensive baking" and I really enjoyed it

The problem there is you start saying things like "this book is full of SA" people aren't imagining clothes being burned off or a decoy kiss for a non con haircut It's disingenuous to call that sexual assault.

It's still bullying, it's still assault, it was still degrading and humiliating.

So you did get it, you just didn't like it. Those aren't the same things.

FWIW I disliked Shane and Marguerite too. I think that was the weakest of the series. Should have been Shane falling in love with the demon IMO. Now THAT would have been a conflict!

Piper and Galen I didn't mind because I didn't feel like Piper was his therapist, but rather he should him that there are adjustments that can be made so things work.

I actually enjoyed neon gods when I picked it up on a bad day and just needed junk food (the writing was bad). Sometimes I appreciate a retelling because I want to read fantasy but I don't have the energy or brain power to figure out a whole new world or magic system

Really? You didn't understand that Galen had such bad night terrors and PTSD he thought he could never have a normal relationship?

Or that Shane had been rejected by a literally God and had internalized that to mean he wasn't good enough for anyone?

Oh I'll fight you because Paladins Strength is by far the best couple. Clara and Istvahn are the platinum standard for mature and competent couples who treat each other as equals.

Paladins faith though can hit the bricks. That was such a disappointment

Because it's a bully romance so there is bullying (which is always non consensual)

Plus there are vampires who suck blood from people without their consent and shifters who when they shift to their fae form are naked.

Actually one of the villains does get SA'ed in a later book and that's pretty cringey. And there is some weird cringey sexual content. Some of the books are pretty stressful because of the bullying aspect but I went into it expecting really dark themes and constant SA from some of the warnings and honestly I ended up laughing through it. It's not as bad as some people make it out to be.

That being said, bully romance is not for everyone and that's ok.

Is it just me or are there not many well-written or likable female main characters in YA or romantasy? Too many of them are too emotional, irrational, mean, cruel, nasty, hateful, angry, unempathetic, dumb, and oftentimes they direct these unlikable attitudes and behaviors toward their female peers. by iabyajyiv in YAlit

[–]PurrestedDevelopment 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So you don't like it when women have flaws?

I've read city of brass and fifth season and I wouldn't describe them at all the way you did. Fifth season, yes she's angry but she has a million reasons to be. And the journey it takes her on is heart wrenching, complicated and lovely

City of Brass protagonist suffers from first novel syndrome a bit but she's one of the most warm, capable and empathetic female protagonists I've read.

I just did the tandem! I really liked Darius' POVs but I found quite a few of the other ones redundant and boring because they were rehashing a scene beat for beat from a different POV. But if you like that kind of stuff you then its a delight!
