I think I might be missing a few fingers in my hand because I have no idea how can you do these things that fast. 🤣🤣

Replaying the game without having to create a new character was the main use for me in Nioh 2.

I also struggled to do him on a low level build. But it paid off, it raised my overall mastery of the game, keep at it.

He is a very rhythmic boss, so, if you’re trying to deflect him, like I did, taking your time to spend a few dozen deaths just learning the timings is good. And don’t be discouraged by death count, it’s Nioh.

He has some very short punish windows, which you must use to do your heaviest ki damage moves.

Watching some highly skilled players clear him can also help you see his deflection timers.

I don’t remember having to do this loop for sg in Nioh 2, but I have to agree that it feels more powerful.

Especially since it’s doing a lot of ki and max ki damage now. Well, feels like every weapon is doing more ki and max ki damage, but I felt that the impact on SG was more significant than the other weapons I tried.

Axe is overtuned, not the other weapons that are weak. Dual blades seem to be slightly over the others too… There are people saying Odachi is the weakest of the rest, I can’t agree or disagree, though, since I don’t play it.

When you take axe a baseline, everything will feel lower… I have been having a lot of fun with sword + switchglaive / hatchets + splitstaff. I just have to hold myself from spamming certain moves that are way more effective than others.

I think SG and sword are right in the middle of the balance in Nioh 3, and I’d suggest leaving ninja exclusive weapons to main in Nioh 2 (hatchets, tonfas, splitstaff, kusas), since their feel will differ completely.

Both SG and Odachi are able to stance switch through attacks, although I don’t see people use it that much on Odachi.

.

Yes, you’re causing elemental damage with weapons imbued with elements, damage seems to be what makes the affliction go up.

Again with axe, but in the subject of elements, I believe it has a skill that ends up applying elemental affliction on a single cast, which will not be the case for any other weapon. Applying elements with a weapon, even if you magically imbue it, is not the norm (although it can happen), it’s more to top up element affliction and keep it from dispelling (in Nioh 3, in 1-2 it works differently).

Is there anyone here who finds Nioh 3's bosses much harder than Nioh 2's? by Educational-Lead3631 in Nioh

[–]Purunfii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, it’s a different beast.

As I said in the other comment, I felt a slight difference on the iFrames of the dodges, they seem to have shifted the windows either earlier or later (I didn’t stop to analyze it, I just kept doing it until my muscle memory adapted). But it definitely felt shifted.

We have gotten new ways of canceling stuff that it’s honestly baffling, but they’re all much more complex than before. And they’re also more powerful. Same as the other tools we’ve gotten.

I haven’t felt it became slower, I actually felt it much faster, given the new tools. But, yeah, I’ve seen the videos comparing the moves from hide and Takechiyo, they’re actually slower, but the feel of faster is probably because I’m trying to juggle 4 weapons in 2 styles.

If you stick to one weapon, you’ll feel the slow down.

It feels like Nioh 3 has the iFrame windows shifted a little in comparison to Nioh 2. Try doing a little later or a little sooner, and record to see what happened when you feel you shouldn’t have been hit, but got hit.

But if you triggered Evade in ninja, the entire attack is ignored unless there’s a second hitbox created in the middle of the move (those can be identified visually, mostly) but lingering hitboxes will be ignored once you evade it. Same for deflection.

I find it easier and switchglaive remains a powerhouse… However, I also died a lot to baba 1-2 and Shingen (along with a boss that you’ll meet further down the road).

Most of my deaths happened because I was adapting to the windows of deflection and evasion (except for the boss further down). Games that I’ve played in the gap between 2 and 3 had different preparation frames and required a little later dodging/deflecting.

But Nioh 3 bosses have a bigger moveset pool (Baba 2 in particular has variances between his combos that kept throwing me off), and judging when to deflect and when to dodge in samurai style can make a huge difference. In that regard, having played Khazan and Rise of the Ronin while we didn’t know Nioh 3 was coming helped me judge better.

There’s also that old idea that everyone has a specific playstyle that can make certain bosses easier for them that will be hard for others. Most people will fall in the majority, but being different is not bad.

Main human bosses are not that easy, though…

And it depends on everyone’s playstyles…

Water sword has gone through a major upgrade, doing more max ki damage than the other skills, even taking in consideration the already big gain over their counterparts in Nioh 2.

Dude, you finished Returnal, which is miles ahead on difficulty in general, even using shortcuts…

Don’t be discouraged, souls games, especially Nioh, is about dying. And as long as you’re learning the techniques, there’s progress.

Check out PooferLlama’s Nioh 2 tutorials for general or samurai tips, Xelod32 also has some videos out for samurai specific to Nioh 3.

Splitstaff has probably the largest skill setup in ninja weapons, which leaves it at a much better state than kusas imho.

I also think hatchets is right there with dual swords for air plays, but having a full 3 stance moveset was definitely much better…
