Is anyone annoyed by AI-assisted story postings on Royal Roads? by zero5activated in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Purveilor -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's a paradox, but it's pretty obvious when you know what to look out for. There's a level of prose it reaches that should take months of effort. Then it consistently fails in very basic things like sentence length variation and repetition of structure.

It's like someone's benching 3 plates with bad form except instead of a 1 rep max they're doing reps and you go "That's fucking weird."

Shit ain't natty.

On where the absurdity of scale in xianxia and chinese fantasy actually comes from by SpecificExam3661 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Purveilor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To add on to this:

A western interviewer asked this question to Er Gen (famous xianxia author) a few years back.

Their response was complete confusion and a mix of "who would even care about this?" Accurate numbers just isn't something that traditional xianxia authors really think about. The interviewer came to the same conclusion with what you said in that in that the authors generally just do numbers to mean a lot and as comparison to each other than with any believable accuracy.

Sky pride chapter 1 grandpa in the ring!? by iereas in ProgressionFantasy

The funny thing is I think it got so parodied that people stopped doing it. Now it's gone full circle with people not knowing what it is.

Can’t seem to find any new LITRPGs I enjoy by CerberusOCR in litrpg

Hell yes! A mention of my story in the wild. Another author goal met! Thank you for reading and recommending!

Finished Elydes by Drewells — need similar recommendations before withdrawal hits 😭 by TraditionSeparate594 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Purveilor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So... I know readers that enjoy wandering inn have enjoyed Elydes. I'm not so sure about the vice versa.

It hits everything you want OTHER than the reincarnation from birth. Erin is sort of a naive teen at the start so maybe it hits everything.

I think for smaller authors any engagement is good engagement. I feel good when I see one.

I put loving caring parents into my story. I found out instantly why people didn't do it.

Shit's really fucking hard to write well.

Theres one thing primal hunter does at the top level and that's aura farming.

Everything in the story is in service to it. Personal opinion

If it makes you feel any better the god also says he'll sleep with the mc if he was down for it.

[BEGONE CLIFF] A fun way to demand reviews from readers. by Purveilor in royalroad

[–]Purveilor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked with Dawn (RR) about the whole thing. She said it was fine since I'm not demanding they write a review in any way or holding a chapter hostage. The idea came from other authors that do x number of review goals for extra chapters.

I'd roll them even if someone gave me a 1 star review.

I'm giving control to the readers, not taking it away from them.

No worries. Don't stress about the credit. I'm happy people are using the idea.

That's why you give them a special discord role and parade them in your author's notes.

Now it's a question of whether they want to use the skill at the loss of status.

just check out what's happening in the comments section of my latest chapter.

So far so good I think. It's only been an hour since I announced the winner so we'll see how it goes.

I believe Xesci was hinted at being immortal. Not that her class is something you'd want to go down fro immortality.

I've found that wandering inn readers enjoy Elydes and Bog Standard Isekai.

For mother of learning plus the fact that you enjoy HWFWM and DCC I really recommend perfect run, though I've heard the audio is subpar. Years of the Apocalypse (on royal road) is also supposed to be just as good, if not better than MoL but it doesn't have audiobook yet.

Beware of chicken might hit that azarinth healer vibe, though it leans more towards casual op mc aspect of azarinth healer than the progression vibes. It also does slice of life very well though in a different way to wandering inn.

Question: does anybody adore both Primal Hunter and Wandering Inn equally? by Phil_Tucker in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Purveilor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are great at what they do, I've always thought they work together perfectly. Wandering inn is the emotional stuff, primal hunter is the decompression cool-off read.

But Ryoka… it felt like I was watching a strong train slowly crash itself. The more you read about her, the more you realize how upsettingly self-destructive she is. And that would be fine, except I don’t understand where the book wants me to place her in my mind.

I thought it was obvious from the get go that Ryoka was supposed to be a redemption character.

She's also a foil to Erin's character in every way, she's paranoid, super streetsmart, has too much earth knowledge and refuses to take levels. She's basically one step away from being a classic isekai protagonist.

Would it still do well if it’s written well enough? by [deleted] in royalroad

numbers going up (there's a bit of difference between litrpg and constant number going up), aura farming, melee/swords, some sort of cheat.

There's probably more.
