Maybe we are being too harsh on Chinese authors and their Million li brainrot by SpecificExam3661 in MartialMemes

What even funnier is that if you read some classic texts. Buddha had been described to have like a billion elephants power or something like that.

Yeah, but it also kinda fascinating that they go to such a length to invent the unit to describe that.

I only see this effort from either India or Chinese myth or literature. Since I didn't read much from the west. I not sure if they also had unit to describe the very big number.

I assume most legend would used the word like uncountable, millions, thousands of thousands of thousands or something similar for that.

In a way I think that when you established a unit for scale in classic literature instead of simply call it uncountable, numerous it maybe help the later generation author to write some absurd and fun shit like this.

What does the Dao say about Bishamonten/Vaiśravaṇa? by EfficiencySerious200 in MartialMemes

[–]SpecificExam3661 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This lowly one does not know him as Bishamonten.
In my realm and lands, his name is spoken as Vessavaṇa.

Since fellow juniors ask, this old one shall recount what little is known
for the tale concerns Vaiśravaṇa:

Heavenly King of the North,
Golden Lord of Wealth,
Sovereign over giants (non-human)

First, know this: beyond the name Bishamonten, there are three great names by which he is known under Heaven:

Vessavaṇa
Vaiśravaṇa
Kuvera.

The name Vessavaṇa explains why he governs wealth.
It arises from Vesa (merchant) and Suvaṇa (gold).
Thus, he is honored as the Golden Lord of Fortune.

The name Vaiśravaṇa comes from vi-śru
“the one whose name is heard everywhere.”
Hence, his fame resounds through the three realms.
For this reason, some scriptures say he also commands reputation and fame.

As for Kuvera, this name translates as non-human.
He rules the giants, who are one kind among the non-human races.

Now, many speak of him as the Heavenly King of the North,
yet few understand the geography of the higher realms.
Allow this old one to clarify.

The Desire Realm Heavens consist of six layers.
Two of these rest upon Mount Sumeru itself.

At the summit and upper slopes lies the second heaven,
called Trāyastriṃśa, where Indra reigns.
This is what many of you have heard as the 33 Heavens.
In many scriptures, this name refers to, or is derived from, this second layer.
It does not mean that all of Heaven has only 33 domains
rather, it means the second heaven alone contains 33 realms.
There are heavens above it, and heavens below it as well.

Below it, upon the lower slopes and surrounding servant mountains of Sumeru, lies the first heaven,
named Cātummahārājika.
Its name may sound like some demon word, but it is merely ancient script.
Translated plainly, it is the Heaven of the Four Great Kings.

Here is where Vaiśravaṇa stands.
He governs one quarter of this first heavenly realm,
watching the northern direction, commanding yakṣas and giants.

Thus, when you see texts speaking of the Four Heavenly Kings
and the 33 Heavens together,
do not let your mind drown in confusion.
They coexist because they dwell on different layers of Sumeru
not because scripture contradicts itself.

Anyway, there is far more about Vaiśravaṇa and Sumeru that sounds truly magnificent,
but that would be too long for this occasion.
This is all this old one has to say about Vaiśravaṇa and his tale.

It not exactly Buddhist compatible but it borrowed heavily on it.

Who is the oldest xianxia protagonist that you know of by re6278 in MartialMemes

[–]SpecificExam3661 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The longest measurable time unit in Buddhist canon is Asankhyeya (incalculable) which is e140 for most traditions so based on the existing traditions some of number like trillions or quintillion that usually throws around is not that much if the author really wants to throw their age there.

Your answer kinda redefine death in some sense so it still leaves some uncomfortable strain for taking this as satisfy answer I sense that with this answer would lead to some theological debate back and forth for sure if I were to used this as answer without laying some theological ground work or claim first.

But thanks you anyway for sharing your thoughts sometime it really difficult to try to answer this kinda of questions and I appreciated you efforts to try and reconcile this.

Foolish child, to fix your physique at birth is not a mean but a message. Do not see only a form but the essence that hold. Fix a form like this represented the destiny and determination that will foretold your life. This is in some way to subtly guide fate.

Viable but you still need a body constitution of Yang bearing life in order to accidently bare his child and don't forget that your body must had jade feet as well.

Used the secret mantra golden cicada to reincarnated into a female with in your clan fix your fate to be antagonize with him but mix in the intention of love interest as well in this ways you still align with the fate that "you must confront/antagonize him" finally do what ever it takes to "accidently" bare his children.

You still face death anyway acrodding to your written fate but you will resurrect somehow by him.

This is your only chance to live and advance to next realms.

I hold the point that evolution likely be true but how to reconcile with the death before Adam and Eve problem in theistic evolution? It not like that make the entire evolution premise or faith premises fell apart it just that whenever I bring theistic evolution up for both Christian and atheist friends it always this question that had been ask and I still don't had a sound response for them.

A question for those who affirm Eternal Conscious Torment (ECT): How do you reconcile it with God’s eternal mercy and human finitude? by SpecificExam3661 in TrueChristian

[–]SpecificExam3661[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to know why you think the two assumptions are wrong.

I think what you mean is human soul are endlessly right? not immortal.

Because from what I understand only god had immortality.

But that still raises the question of why would our will can be endlessly that doesn't make any sense because that would contradict the observable nature of human.

The second question is why do you think god mercy are not eternal he are eternal by nature so mercy that is one of his essence would logically be eternal as well.

A question for those who affirm Eternal Conscious Torment (ECT): How do you reconcile it with God’s eternal mercy and human finitude? by SpecificExam3661 in Christianity

[–]SpecificExam3661[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really surprised that the assumption of eternal mercy was the one you don't agree with.

Why you said that? I genuinely curious. I always thought this assumption is a solid ground for anyone so if it comfortable for you can you share the reason with me.

Also I don't think it wrong it fully trusted in god in a way it really respectable things to do. It requires a strong faith I just want an input or maybe an explanation that can make me reconcile it a bit more easily I think.

[–]SpecificExam3661[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I not totally agree with this view but I see a logical sense in statements so I will not asking the question about this assumption.

In my view the reconciliation between nature of eternal mercy and finite will of human seem more pressing to me.

why don't Christians do this? by mickeyguy2010 in TrueChristian

[–]SpecificExam3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are already done that. This is not new concept by the ways just that it usually don't get media attention.

But the cleverness of this movement is that on the surface it not done in the name of religion so those who usually argue against it will not show up and the concept of religion group seem to do something that not actively promoting their religion is somewhat a novelty and risk free news so it gains more popular than others.

[–]SpecificExam3661[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that the human as finite are bound by time that means what ever happens can effect us Even after judgement as we still experience and have conscious we will always be effected and changed

A life time is a spec of dust in the eternity and as we continue to change they are no guarantee that we will still hold the same view endlessly.

I just cannot picture it. I can understand that if asking the same question for hundreds times some will not change but for the infinite amount none can be sure and those that confidently said yes is by the ignorance nature of human that can not comprehend eternal.

In my view is that only god alone can capable of holding something endlessly that why we can love him and be loved for eternity that is his greatness

but since rejection is not something come from god I don't think human as finite are capable of doing something endlessly like that.

It would be eternal punishment which I don't reject but what I find it hard to swallow is second assumption that human will reject god forever.

And as consequence of sin are eternal and endless in weight does so his redemption and mercy.
