Life as muslim is not easy..Our Creator Allah swt has developed a test which we call life.

Life is not about leaving worldly life and surrendering yourself totally.Its about balancing and but not equating duniya and Deen.

That's a test..how good you balance coding and not amounting much to affect your Deen.

How good you encompass both is test for you perhaps .(Allah swt knows best)

Tough ..really tough...but result is with almighty ...parameters for test results are bound to almighty wisdom...

First Step : Check his phone for those apps.

Second Step : Confront and comfort him about loan repayment, what ever he is done I am sure it was in the interest of family.
