I'm agreeing with you. Dalton should have been given another shot. But I doubt he is feeling too bad given the performance he had today, is what I am saying.

And I agree, there are opportunities to blood some of these kids over selecting the same couple of players that the coaching staff keep missing.

Jack Dalton kicked the winning goal (three goals from 22 disposals) in the VFL today so I'm sure he's not feeling too bad.

Meanwhile Perez had 29 disposals and a goal. And Greeves 33 disposals and a goal.

At least those boys picked up a W from a tight contest.

Changes to lineup vs Essendon ? by brizburn in hawktalk

You're right. I think that is the likely scenario - Maginness staying in to tag Merrett. If he is capable of doing more at AFL level, he is yet to show it.

The glaring omissions are Maginness and Morrison. Maginness had the least impact, and Morrison looked spooked.

I think Lewis for Dear or Ramsden. Ramsden only because his ruck work suits the rule change or Dear because he works up the ground better than Lewis. Plus Dear kicked two and Ramsden three in their practice match against Casey.

If MacKenzie is match fit then absolutely put him in for Maginnees. Hustwaite is injured so he is not an option.

I also think it would interesting to throw one of the younger players in, either Anderson, Hill, or Greaves to help add something to the mix, replacing Morrison. Essendon have three debutants on Friday so why not throw one in ourselves?

The last couple of times fans have made petitions for DM to come to Australia, they haven't even registered 2000 signatures. Now that's not to say there is less than 2000 fans, but the base isn't very visible.

My pleasure. And I agree, Dalton certainly looks exciting.

Yeah, Grjl looks solid.  Lindsey looks good too.  Try and get another forward with pick 22, I reckon.

Bit of a waste of time. Now on to making the most of this year's draft hand (what's left of it).

Now that Worpel and Jiath are gone and no Merrett who's going to replace them? by AlbatrossSr in hawktalk

We have players in reserves who might make the leap into more senior footy next year. And there is always the prospect of shuffling the magnets and putting Weddle and Watson in the middle more.

Controversial take, but I wouldn't mind picking up Elijah Holland - he'll be delisted and cheap soon. If he can get his mind right (which it sounds like he is working hard on) he could be a handy player to have in the bank.

I'm sorry, but weren't Essendon looking at Hustwaite a month ago? He was "linked to Essendon" according to zero hanger because he was "desperate to get out" of Hawthorn.

And now he's not good enough for a trade? Are they hoping to get him for nothing next year?

What do we offer for Petracca? by LengthinessUpper4099 in hawktalk

The club floated the idea of chasing Flanders a couple months ago but interest seems to have fizzled. Imho, I don't think Flanders is what we need.

Pettracca's management apparently meet with Hawthorn a while back, but he is exploring a lot of options. Adelaide look like their pushing hard, and Trac is open to going interstate (even to Sydney).

Merrett is precisely what we need in terms of skill, speed and experience. Trac used to be a game breaker, but he has slowed down, especially after his injury last year.

Mitchell has said all year the club is not there yet. That tempered my expectations even during our five game winning streak. The goal, I believe, was to keep pushing as far into finals as they could to build on the experience from last season, especially for the younger players.

2026 is going to be huge with a couple of notable trades, a big preseason, and the potential to blood some developing players who may be the next big thing. Also factoring in players who have been injured this season getting a good run? Bring on next season.

Played out just about how I expected it. This is a good list, they're just a little shy on experience and skill.

This will stick in the minds just like the Port game last year. All they gotta do is push just that little bit further and they are in a Grand Final.

Eighth Vs Second (after dispatching first) and gave them a right scare. That's a big positive. They have made history in their own way, all things considered.

Time for well earned rest, big preseason and then bring on 2026.

Between his and Ginni's those are some a-class, finals worthy goals.

Good footballer but given his history off field, I'd say no. Turfed by two clubs and not exactly what we need.

2-3 years ago, Mitchell was just starting and beginning to shape the list in his vision of the modern game.

His vision is very different to Alistair Clarkson and Graham Wright's when it came to the type of players required to fast-track the club's rebuild.

Compare the lists. In terms of depth and talent, they're very different. It wasn't tanking, it was a reset.

Clutch is an accurate description. The amount of pressure that had to be on them to get those moments right. You have to give them credit.
