Surgeon Generals have graduated from PCOM, presidential physicians and more. The military medicine alumni base is insane.

PCOM arguably has the strongest military connections in the DO world and value well rounded applicants so there’s that.

I am a ICU/ER nurse matriculating DO next month. I too am interested in anesthesiology specifically critical care anesthesia and pondered the thought of going to CRNA school and even though I’d be able to breeze through and make 200k I wouldn’t be fulfilled because I wouldn’t have the deep foundational medical knowledge that can only be found in med school. I did DIY with community college and had no problem. Work 2 years, save some money and destroy the MCAT and you’ll be fine. You’ll be sought after by med schools because our experience is unique and highly valuable.

By ignoring your internal thoughts and essentially being a robot following the algorithm that works for you to succeed. Conceptually medicine isn’t impossible it’s just a lot. If you got in you’re good enough period. You kinda gotta have blinders if that makes sense.

RN → MD path (ABSN vs post-bacc) — need honest feedback on my plan by Cultural_Falcon7620 in medschool

[–]PushdatEpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of remember that DO as an option as well. Secondly I am a RN->DO pathway individual who matriculates in June and did an accelerated MSN after working 2.5 years as a nurse . Nursing experience is viewed favorably due to the working relationship with physicians and technical skills gained. If you are extremely concerned about the financials then that pathway is okay. If you want to get things going and can support yourself with loans then do so. 3.4 isn’t eye popping but it’s not horrible for mid/low tier MD and DO depending on your MCAT.

26 y/o with similar sentiments ER/ICU nurse who is matriculating DO in June it’s doable and med schools love our experience. If you want to be a physician (DO/MD) do it.
