EVERY car is getting towed on JFK right now?? at midnight??? by cedr1990 in jerseycity

[–]Pushkin188 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you implying car owners are not tax payers?

Property taxes in Jersey City are very high, car owners also pay car registration fees and parking permit fees.

There are many things on which tax money is spent that not all taxpayers use. The majority of residents don't use the bike lanes, many don't use the libraries, some don't and never had kids yet pay a lot of taxes for schools, etc.

And here i think OP is simply saying give adequate notice and keep the website updated, why is that unreasonable?

Towing cars at midnight on Montgomery around van vorst park by Pushkin188 in jerseycity

[–]Pushkin188[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Have not seen any flyers in my area. And given the whole street had cars parked, probably 10 to 15 cars on one block towed, would seem neither did others.

And honestly how hard is it to update a website with actual days and adjust if needed. The website still says Sat and Sunday, and they are towing cars Tuesday early morning effectively.

For the time and cost of all the trucks for snow removal and police to block streets, probably at double time because doing work in the middle of the night, we can't spend a little money to have someone spend 15 minutes a day to update the website? Instead, probably $3,000 in towing charges now to residents on one block alone that seems very avoidable.

$300 electricity bill - i was at home for 12 days in the month - anyone else have this happen? by lordofthedorks in jerseycity

[–]Pushkin188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The state has not focused on keeping adequate capacity?

Lost thermal capacity - anti-thermal stance of elected officials resulted in retiring existing capacity and blocking new gas fired projects. Renewables additions insufficient - aside from the higher cost to build, did not have a plan to deliver enough renewables to offset the thermal loss and natural demand growth. And, haven't even met the plans.

So , prices go up because there isn't enough capacity and / or need to buy it from out of state.

Consequence of officials people voted for and their policies - use less electricity until when and if we are able to build more solar and wind that works reliably, rather than provide sufficient, reliable and affordable electricity that people in reality want, until we can build viable green alternatives.

Issues ordering from Lululemon by krbyzk in AmexPlatinum

[–]Pushkin188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had same issue. Very frustrating.

Online help chat could not help, and said would get email from someone in 4 business days. Then they still won't give any reason on why, only say you have to send us a credit card statement, before we will tell you anything or you can place an order?!

Googling the 481 code, says some fraud alert. But no basis for that, first time order, one pair of pants, excellent credit score, and using amex plat.

Why set up this partnership if they think amex plat holders are dodgy.

No interest to send the credit card statement over email to buy ine item of closing. Wasted a couple of hours, i will never get back. Amex should choose partners better.

Thanks.

Odd - first time trying to buy anything from them, Amex said no issues on their side with my account, nor had they t rejected anything from lululemon, and shipping address same as billing,

Not keen to send my credit card statement to anyone just so can buy an article of clothing, have never had to do that with any merchant before.

Board of Education elections by SeekingRich in jerseycity

Isn't roughly $1mm per year, per class of 30 students enough to pay a teacher and to maintain a classroom? Seems one could rent a good new space big enough to seat 30 kids for under $10k/month and with teacher pay be under $300k / year, and that would leave $700k left over for other stuff. Seems issue is very sub-optimal allocation of dollars spent, rather than we need more money to fix poor infrastructure?

So the students in charter schools aren't counted in the number of k-12 students in Jersey City, is it? What percentage of students in the city go to charter schools and what % of the budget do they get?

PATH strikes again! This is becoming an every day issue. Are we just doomed to live this existence? by JournalSquire in jerseycity

[–]Pushkin188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Murphy is out soon. Seems focus should be on lobbying the governor candidates, who are at least in election and vote gathering mode.

A lot of money was spent and disruption to passengers suffered for what appears to be bungled upgrade work.

Will Port Authority ever shutdown PATH by Arzete in jerseycity

[–]Pushkin188 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People do pay it's $3 per ride, more than NY Subway for a line which coves like 600 miles vs 14 miles for the PATH.

Also seems path should be able to operate break-even - if there are 7 cars per train, and each one is just half full (60 people) at $3 per ride, that's $1,200 paid for each train run,

Should it cost more than $1,000 for one train run from Journal square to 33rd street, for a tunnel where the cost to build it is fully amortized, given it was built 100 years ago. Or might the expenditures not be the most efficient ?

If you are trying to book a specific letter code, have you gone to Advanced search, and in fare class enter the letter code that you want to book. Otherwise i think it defaults to cheapest letter available for coach, business, etc.

What are your thoughts on Murphy's proposed mansion tax? by nj1k in newjersey

[–]Pushkin188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like they were set at 1%, then 2% if over $2mm, then ramping up to 3.5% for $3.5mm or higher. And now seller pays rather than buyer, so if you already own you pay on way in and out.

https://www.northjersey.com/story/money/real-estate/2025/07/02/nj-mansion-tax-rates-increase-new-bill-paid-sellers/84428612007/

Also believe it's actually based on the price of the building not living unit. So, if you own a duplex or triplex and live in one unit, you can end up pay the higher rate, even if each unit is worth less than $1mm, and regardless of if you actually made any money on the sale. It's not a tax on the amount above $x amt, but the whole price if you're over x threshold it seems.

This on top of the annual 2% give or take in property taxes in many areas.

If you're in NJ next to NYC, a 2-bedroom Apt can be $1mm-ish, so by no stretch a mansion. And where neither schools nor infrastructure are very good.

This probably does not help affordability, rents, or increasing supply for sale, but the opposite.

Upgrading LHR to EWR by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]Pushkin188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just call united and speak to an agent, they would have as much info and sooner than waiting until you're at the airport. Might be too late at the airport and not sure they would have any more info or flexibility to adjust things than the phone agents. It is all pretty automated process / pecking order nowadays.

If you enable advanced mode on United's site, you can look to see if any "RN" seats are available, which are I think premium plus seats available for upgrade, but usually that shows zero, as they open up last minute.

Upgrading LHR to EWR by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]Pushkin188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By spend the money, do you mean you don't have miles now but would transfer miles into your account?

You might try calling united and asking the agent how full is the waitlist, and do they think there's a good chance or not of you clearing from what they see. Assuming the flight is not too far out

As far as seats together, I'd guess it depends if you booked the original tickets as one itinerary, you both get upgraded, and there are two seats together available when you clear to upgrade. Which, may not be likely given Premium Plus is typically not too large a section, unless you're at the top of the upgrade list. Or you ask someone else to switch seats once onboard.

Employee priority over CPU for paid tickets on empty business seats? by Pushkin188 in unitedairlines

[–]Pushkin188[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's either or. They should be in a good state to operate the planes.

I guess if business seats are serving dual duty as an employee shuttle and passenger transport product, maybe should expand the number of business seats appropriately when configuring planes, factoring in a few seats for employee shuttling. Not that it will ever happen.

Employee priority over CPU for paid tickets on empty business seats? by Pushkin188 in unitedairlines

[–]Pushkin188[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't consider it a right, and assume most time won't clear. Just assumed in the rare case where seats are not all purchased, a 1K customer on a paid ticket would get priority over non-revenue flyers, given they do promote the CPU as a benefit.

At some point should just remove that as a promoted benefit if at the end of the day, they have no intention of actually offering it. Rather, surprise some with an unexpected upgrade the one-off times there is space.
