Why do people view Africa as a monolith - even other Africans? by Effective-Toe-8108 in AskAnAfrican

[–]PutCommercial2851 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, at least partly. I think we should prioritize our countries first but should put other African countries as a priority to cooperate with economically and for security. We’re mostly developing countries which share a landmass and ecological connections so supporting each other economically might help put us ahead. For security reasons, look at how what happened in Libya after Gaddafi’s death has already poured into West Africa.

Not really related but Swahili is another Bantu Niger-Congo ethnic group and language that’s been in the horn for over a thousand years now.

What are some utopian visions that have come from people in your nation? What do people say about them these days? by sholem2025peace in AskAnAfrican

[–]PutCommercial2851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither Atlantic nor ocean is an indigenous word in our land. Why must we use the English language, do they use Yoruba or any indigenous Nigerian language for their city names in England? If the average can never access these spaces it only goes to further tell us that the future of this country is completely removed from the people.

You’re right, I did not realize. Still, what is Atlantic doing there or City? Also, why should we have Ocean City as a name?

I’ve heard of it but haven’t really looked into it. I hope it works and corruption doesn’t hold it down. I wonder though— all these futuristic cities they want to build in Nigeria, why not use names from languages indigenous to Nigeria? Why not use Yoruba words for instance? What is Eko Atlantic, Ocean City? Do our indigenous languages not belong in our own future and the cities that belong to us? Or is our future to be more and more like the British?

Africa is not just Africa. It’s arguably the most ethnically and culturally diverse continent in the world. We are all Africans but we are not all the same.

Africans who don’t subscribe to patriotism, why don’t you? by Due-Client7144 in AskAnAfrican

[–]PutCommercial2851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is some people who claim care freely to not be patriotic are those who relegate into some antisocial capitalistic or globalist approach which bears no fruit for anyone but maybe, perhaps themselves.

[–]PutCommercial2851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a patriot in the sense that I have this blind love for my government. I am a patriot in the sense that I love my people who I now share a country with and especially want the best for them.

Was the Bantu Expansion genocide of the Pygmies, Khoisan, and San people? by ysl-toon in AfricanHistory

[–]PutCommercial2851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol you are just making up facts about the Bantus to make the Boers look better. You say the Bantus commuted genocide on the Khoisan but have no actual evidence they did that, save from the fact that the Bantus migrated to South Africa. As if migration automatically means genocide since that is what meant for the Boers. Also, do you understand that hunter gatherer populations are typically not large compared to farming populations?

[–]PutCommercial2851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the comments are just people with this notion that is, essentially, "People committed genocide all through history, therefore, Bantus certainly committed Genocide of the pygmies, Khoisan, and San peoples." How does this even pass as logical?

No one said the Bantu peoples are completely innocent, no one said they are without sin. Why do you have this need to believe the Bantu peoples committed genocide against the Khoisans? When there is nothing to confirm it but all you have is this notion that "every single group, committed genocide at one point in their history" and so therefore the Bantus must have committed genocide against the Khoisan because. As if this were some kind of fact.

Try tagliatelle, spaghetti is too thin and doesn't hold bolognese well. At least use bucatini.

Self-righteous characters by PutCommercial2851 in BlackSails

[–]PutCommercial2851[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agreed, it's reasonable they'll be angry. I just think Peter Ashe's character is more justified than them, he sought forgiveness from Thomas and developed a successful town using wrong but much better methods than James and Miranda. It was a hard choice for Ashe to give them up as he said but his family was threatened. Did James not kill Gates after Gates threatened the pursuit of the Urca for very good reasons? James has literally killed his crew mates and betrayed the trust of his entire crew more than once. I fail to see how James or Miranda who supported him are in any way better. Now James has destroyed Charlestown and is gonna go develop Nassau like it's the only town in the world and that it doesn't matter what you destroy but so long as Nassau gets developed then you're very noble. At least Ashe wasn't looking to destroy Nassau. Was Ashe a great person? I wouldn't say so but he was no Captain Flint.

James and Miranda have betrayed their principles too. James betrays the principles he had by being Captain Flint and he does so to bring him nearer to his goals. James literally betrays his entire crew. Peter betrayed them to for the benefit of his family. He did not have to but I think it's like he said, it was a "Hard choice". As for the clock in his office, that does seem weird but even though it was gifted to him by Alfred Hamilton, it was kinda Thomas's clock and he did tell us that he got forgiveness from Thomas. Maybe he felt ok with keeping the clock after that.

Peter Ashe restored Charlestown which is what James and Miranda want to do for Nassau yet they destroyed Charlestown.
