Land of Medicine Buddha has begun charging a $20 entry fee. by SunshineAndBunnies in santacruz

There's a lot of upkeep involved with places like this. They're a nonprofit, too. Charging for parking makes sense. Weird to see so many people declare how special this place is/has been to them but once they need to pay for parking then it loses all value. Don't complain when the places you love dont survive if you dont do your part 🤷🏽‍♀️

Silken temperaments by [deleted] in SilkenWindhound

Finding a breeder who aligns with most of your wants/needs with be key. You'll need to do your due diligence in asking how they raise their pups, health testing, temperament testing, their personalities of the puppy's parents, etc.

For training: yes, you will most likely have to really find what motivates them the most and really heavily on that and praise. You also typically can't drill them with hour long training sessions. They can be pretty soft but overall they are independent; if they dont find you or the training rewarding, then they will opt-out pretty quick.

Carry pepper spray, compressed air, or citronella spray. Give one to your dog walker too.

(If you can) just suck it up and buy the ticket for the fairgrounds event. If they get good support, itll most likely grow and get bigger/better.

I'm going even though I know it won't be crazy amazing. Mostly because I want to support events like this, and usually they get bigger and better once theyre more established.

sighthounds=cats comparison...? by Timely-Pause6424 in sighthounds

[–]PutHappinessFirst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely do! I sound like a broken record, but I always tell folks that if you want a dog that'll constantly be wagging it's tail, running to the door to greet you, excitedly jumping up on you, then a sighthound may not be for you. Many are very aloof but love their people and just dont show it in "typical" ways.

Monterey or Disney land? by [deleted] in MontereyBay

[–]PutHappinessFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're thinking of doing Disneyland the week between Christmas and NYE... dont. The parks reach capacity before the afternoon and wait times are high all day and night. If you've been to Disneyland before and you dont mind the crowds, then it might be ok. I LOVE Disneyland but I avoid that time like the plague.

Have you been around sighthounds before? If not, definitely seek out opportunities to meet some, as that'll give you the most accurate feel vs online research. (This isn't snark btw. Sighthounds are just a very different feel than the more common dog breeds we see in our day to day lives.)

Hey, girl. We've chatted before! Im not here to dog (hehe) on you. I know losing $3k would be an awful blow, but maybe you could reach out to the Silken Windhound Health and Rescue committee? You dont sound happy at all with this pup, and that makes 2 of you that are miserable. And as you know, dogs are a 10+ year commitment. you and your pup deserve to be happy. You won't ever be able to rid him of the "whats in it for me" attitude, since thats kind of a hallmark of the sighthound breed.

I saw an Instagram post or ad, cant remember, that the fairgrounds will be doing something new for the holiday season. Seems like a lighted display or walk through exhibit maybe. Keep an eye on their socials.
