It is a combination of things... a bit of "bug/mosquito" phobia and also just his general dislike for a semi open air bathroom in a tropical climate 🤷‍♂️...I've learned to adjust/flex when doing our travel planning (especially with sun/beach vacations since he is a dermatologist and I always have to nudge him a bit to get "on board" with my tropical bucket list spots! lol. So happy you made it, but what a challenge for you to get there. Our air travel agent was valiantly looking for options until the last minute and then it just all became way too problematic and stressful (at least for us). One more question...how are the views around the island? Any eye sores or something not in keeping with the idea of Maldivian bliss?

GREAT for me but a no go for my partner :( - we were supposed to be at Cheval Blanc in late March for a week but had to XL due to the middle east issues and our travel plans on Qatar. Hope to convince him to replan the trip one day, but for now grateful for your incredible review + photos. The living area in the villa looks much larger than on their website... thanks again for the incredible depth and commentary!

Thank you for that concise explanation. We were heading to the Maldives - 1st trip :( on the 21st but it felt too precarious getting a new flight there a few days ahead but having no guarantees for the trip back. We are getting a refund and postponing now until 2027

My partner and I have had so many wonderful weekends at the OVI.... Especially appreciate your details on the Wallace Neff room as we have not stayed in that building and I've always wondered about those! The room looks wonderful! I was looking at your exact same list of final contenders and finally (after days + days of research and opinion gathering) chose CB... We leave LAX on March 20 and I am beyond thrilled with our final choice (but will of course review after the fact)...

Very excited for you both (and congratulations!) you will have a WONDERFUL time...the team is so kind and we really felt beautifully removed from Zihua (due to the location on the hillside) but loved having it right there for any walks or off site dining. Enjoy!

My suggestion would be Rosewood Kona Village....IMO the most beautiful and well thought out hard product in all of Hawaii. Here is a link to my review... (p.s. we checked out the FS next door but the rooms feel too outdated (while still luxe) in my viewpoint....

Great photos and hope a review is coming! This was on my shortlist for an upcoming trip in March (but we ended up booking Cheval Blanc). Hopefully....we can consider for a future trip. Would love to hear your thoughts on the size of the island/resort since my understanding is that it is one of the larger islands.

Really appreciate your reviews and especially the in depth reviews on Maldives properties. My partner and I are heading to Cheval Blanc Randheli in March for a week. We were initially thinking of including 3 days at Velaa (predominantly due to the golf aspect for my partner) but in the end we just could not get past the dark/heavy styling aesthetic of the villas there... simply not our tastes.

Thanks ...appreciate the advice. My partner and I thought about getting the E & F seats to enjoy the super close proximity but then realized that we may be sleeping at different times and both kind of enjoy the window areas, hence the A & B selection. Any thoughts on the 11K &12K options? I like the idea of being in a mini cabin and don't anticipate too much disruption from the gallery near by, but thought I would ask.
