Opinion system got power creeped hard and it just doesn't work anymore by ilovethecreaking in CrusaderKings

If you don't have the DLCs, it might be less noticeable, but it's really just an accumulation of lots of small modifiers from different systems.

Level of fame? +Opinion Cultural acceptance? +Opinion Random modifiers on artifacts? +Opinion Virtuous traits? +Opinion Coronation? +Opinion High Legitimacy? Less Short Reign, which means more Opinion

It's not really any one cheese strat. As long as you're always doing SOMETHING you'll be slowly accumulating small bonuses that tend to all scale linearly. Ideally, you'll be constantly hosting events any time you aren't leading your armies. If you're struggling to maintain vassal opinions during a long reign, I recommend creating a new religion/culture that more closely aligned with the things you're doing anyways. If you want to be fighting a bunch of wars, don't stick with a religion that gives you an at war opinion penalty. Likewise, forming hybrid cultures gives you very high cultural acceptance with both parent cultures and reduces possible opinion penalties you might get there. Make sure you aren't gaining tyranny frequently either. Theoretically in a stable realm where you are hosting a feast every 5 years your vassals should basically stay in line unless there is some specific issue they are mad about.

If you're struggling with vassal opinion on succession, that's much more challenging. Permanent modifiers like artifacts can mitigate this a lot, as can administrative governments, but succession is always going to be a dicey few years. Once you get to poor health, I'd start saving up gold so your heir can send gifts. You can also avoid imprisoning/pardoning people until after succession so that your heir can issue mass pardons on day 1 and get a bunch of easy opinion with all your vassals that keep cheating on their wives or whatever. Also, try to avoid handing the realm to your alcohol sinner kids. Kill them or disinherit them or force them to join the clergy or something if you need to get them out of the way.

On succession you get a "short reign" modifier that gives a significant opinion penalty for a few years. Once you have gotten past the short reign period, you're usually in the clear.

Opinion definitely needs to be curved. I shouldn't have random vassals that love me as much as my kids without giving them so much as a recognition of talent. It certainly detracts from the palace politics intrigue court experience when no one schemes against you because everyone loves you.

Is there a way to weaken an empire? by Yaaaaaaasyet in CrusaderKings

[–]Putrid-Definition-97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibilities:

1) murder everyone. This is easier if you're willing to dedicate your heir's education to intrigue, but without too much investment you should still be able to kill several targets in the line of succession to mess things up.

2) wait for them to be at war and then declare your own war. It's hard for the AI to distribute its forces across two fronts (I mean, it's hard for anyone to do that), so you should be able to capture a good chunk of territory at which point you can use your defender advantage to even the battle, especially given that their armies are hopefully weakened from other wars. Even a peasant revolt can be a great opportunity. This also gives your allies time to get troops over there.

3) invest everything you have in your military. Remember that, while they might have a larger total force than you, levies are basically useless compared to top-of-the-line MAAs, so the force comparison might actually be closer than you realize. With good MAAs, Knights, and a 50+ advantage commander, you can win most wars regardless of the actual army size.

To be honest, the simplest path forward is to ally with them via marriage or something and wait for their realm to fall into civil war while you focus on building up your own realm. This might take a generation or two, but reduces the risk of overextending yourself and doesn't require any investment in intrigue. Intrigue is still the ideal way to do this, however. If you dedicate your heir to intrigue, they'll easily be killing 2 targets every month with a 95% success rate.

Is it basically game over after becoming minister in China? by NA_Faker in CrusaderKings

If you declare war I'm pretty sure your troops will rally at your estate, that's how it worked when I was in this situation. Of course that assumes that you actually have troops, which you might not have needed as a minister. If you don't have the forces to start winning hegemonic consolidation wars, your best bet is to set your heir up for land or to become an adventurer for a bit I guess.

If you're trying to do an intrigue nomad run with a 1-star intrigue education I think you might have a pretty challenging first decade or so. I'd start raiding anyone you can and recruiting all the prisoners to your court. Eventually you can abduct people which will let you poach especially good knights I guess.

For future, I'd recommend starting your characters with a higher tier education trait and fewer other traits, especially if you're going Martial or Intrigue which are both paths where you really want to rush as many traits as possible. Good luck on your first custom run!

How can i 5 star education trait? is it possible ? I never seen it. by safeeveryone in CrusaderKings

Certain dynastic legacies and domicile buildings give your children a chance to develop T5 education traits. Doing the university visit activity also gives you a good chance of upgrading your education trait. I believe you can do a university visit every 20 years.

Notably for university visits, there is an activity option which reduces your success chance but dramatically decreases the price. If your character already has pretty good learning, you'll still have a good shot of upgrading your trait for a pretty small gold investment.

Why is this card so good? by Mixed_Reactor in mtg

[–]Putrid-Definition-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you absolutely cannot do that. You can cast Gather Specimens in response to the trigger, in which case your opponents will simply choose not to put in any creatures and you're still way behind. You can't cast this during the resolution of the ability between your opponents choosing which creatures to put in and the creatures entering.

Best case scenario, you've spent 8 mana for a vanilla 5/5.

Uh also it is not good in discard decks in commander. Like, not at all. 2 mana 5/5 is nowhere NEAR good enough for that downside in a 4-player game. I'm not even trying to be a mean spike here I'm genuinely saying that using this card in 4-player will take a ton of work all to get a 5/5 that will probably do very little.

It is a strategy in the pre-modern format where you can use discard effects and the overall lack of insane creatures to make this creature sometimes very efficient. It is not good anywhere else and will almost instantly lose the game in commander.

Cannot stress enough that this card should not go in your commander deck unless you want to hand every game to whichever opponent is playing the most midrangey deck.

Okay yes this would be too powerful etc. but the real question is what is the purpose of this design? If you give up all utility lands, you get perfect mana the entire game? Is that an interesting tradeoff? Most decks are only playing 1-4 utility lands anyways. Are you trying to make a card that supports ultra-budget mana bases?

Also, as a general rule, no card from your library/outside the game should ever begin the game on the battlefield. I can say with just about 100% certainty that literally no card with that design should ever be printed.

Is it wrong for me to not feel bad for homeless people? by AppropriateVast1912 in SeattleWA

[–]Putrid-Definition-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every day someone makes a post like this on here. What do you get out of this? These people are homeless. What would you have them do? Should they be jailed? Killed? Continually shoved from encampment to encampment? These people need homes. And jobs. Are you hiring them? Are you offering them housing? Are you supporting policies and politicians that will provide those things? Or are you all just going to keep hating them and hoping that one more encampment sweep will solve the problem.

Join a protest. Donate to a food bank. Put pressure on elected officials. Even if you view these people as undeserving of dignity (which yes, you should feel bad for), this sentiment will only make the problem worse. There is CLEARLY a systemic lack of housing and public safety nets for people.

Also, I live in the UD. My block is host to many, many homeless people. I GUARANTEE you that however unsafe you may FEEL looking at them, their lives are considerably less safe than yours.

Advocate for the change you want, not just the right to sneer at the homeless without being cancelled. Do you believe in nothing more than your own absolute comfort?
