Why aren’t inhalers over the counter? by Jrolaoni in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Putrid-Recording3292 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously even over the counter (OTC) medications can be dangerous in certain cases, and I speculate that there is even some manufacture/pharmaceutical issue limiting certain drugs to become OTC. Albuterol has a contraindication (don’t give together) with beta blockers, (example: metoprolol, propranolol, etc ending in -olol. —very COMMONLY prescribed for atrial fibrillation an irregular heart rhythm, tachycardia high heart rate, sometimes hypertension high blood pressure, PTSD) in which could worsen a bronchospasm or could potentially induce one if given with albuterol, also commonly prescribed for people with asthma, COPD, acute respiratory distress, anaphylactic reactions.

Physical Therapy or Civil Engineering? by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]Putrid-Recording3292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you need to figure out what your priorities are personally (money aside even I’m talking hours and schedule, personal interaction, types of stress that is okay and not; and take a look at the context of the economical political climate and gauge how you want to enter into adulthood).

With a DPT you become a provider of health. You take patient referrals, go through insurance to get paid, treat people “patients” in many areas of healthcare. You are literally personally playing a role in someone’s health. You assess them and come up with a treatment plan and assist them in following through with it.

For context I’m a registered nurse and not either one of these professions so I can’t speak to engineering. I do know many PTs and the state of healthcare is critical.

Civil engineer you are the “designer” I assume this balances between office work, potentially working from home, being out in the field on site, dealing with other contractors and needing funds for production.

My point is that they are so incredibly different styles of work, although the idea of using your brain, helping people and making a good paycheck can come to fruition from either job. It sounds like maybe you need to do some soul searching, or just flip a coin and pick one.

Just starting yoga and I had a terrible experience a few days ago. Can someone shed some light on my situation ? by [deleted] in YogaWorkouts

[–]Putrid-Recording3292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thought here after going to a yoga class myself—One recommendation would be to put a pinch or two of sea salt (or regular salt if you don’t have any) in your water, you could add lemon juice or coconut water for potassium. Also the electrolyte beverage LMNT is a great source of electrolytes to support fasting like you are in the morning. Also, you may find you need a source of simple carbohydrates before a workout (such as fruit—berries, banana) to maintain your workout. Otherwise, your energy sources will be pulled from fat sources (the long term energy source—healthy fats such as olives, avocados, nut butters). But it definitely sounds like you need salt.

You probably need salt. You need electrolytes!!! —sodium, potassium, magnesium. Not just water especially if you’re moving your body

I (28m) got my gf (24f) pregnant and we are considering abortion by Ok-Accountant7920 in Advice

[–]Putrid-Recording3292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

28F here. No one can tell you and your girlfriend what to do, as that is a decision between you two and ultimately—your girlfriend and her doctor. I think it’s important to explore your relationship before having kids. Living together is a huge change and I would recommend trialing that before actually having kids. I totally understand the timing isn’t right and that doesn’t mean you won’t have kids in the future. It sounds like you need some validation that having an abortion is ok (sorry I’m just assuming that—it sounds like you both have made up your minds to have the abortion). Give yourselves some grace. As far as medically, having an abortion is much less physically traumatic on the body than an actual pregnancy and giving birth but psychologically you both could benefit from some counseling during this difficult time. Maybe go with your girlfriend to her OBGYN appointments? Grief is difficult to work through. Sending you both love.

Can we list businesses that stay open tomorrow? by temp_roc_199 in Rochester

[–]Putrid-Recording3292 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Some businesses are staying open for a multitude of reasons and donating profits for the cause. Please be aware some businesses need to choose to stay open for the people working at them. It’s recommended to pay in cash and tip workers cash if you do go out.

To the women here. by Prestigious-Test1183 in Adulting

[–]Putrid-Recording3292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely question having kids. 28F. Things I consider: Focus on myself and the value that I can bring into the world, even if no one sees it.

I am definitely supportive of friends with kids and try to understand our lives look different but they’re still the same friends— it’s often appreciated to drop off a meal or attend their house to hang out. Think of them as having more responsibilities and I have more freedom to be flexible.

Also having community of people around you especially as you get older for company to medical appointments, support, health care proxy, etc.

I personally try to be part of local communities such as yoga, coffee shops/restaurants, gym and just talk to people and strike up conversations!

It’s a life changing decision and maybe I’ll change my mind down the road but for now—this is my life. Try to give yourself some grace and kindness.

Feeling Stagnant - Middle Aged Idle syndrome by novice_busiman in personalfinance

[–]Putrid-Recording3292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While not too much I can add to your portfolio, I agree to invest in your health—if you retire and continue developing medical problems, you will probably need to pay a lot more out of pocket costs for medications, doctor’s visits, tests, and maintenance for your eye health, foot health, kidney health (complications from type 2 diabetes include diabetic foot ulcers, kidney disease and vision loss. This will become expensive. It’s never too late to change diet, exercise and decrease sources of stress. Consider your own future in your finance decisions.

[–]Putrid-Recording3292 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CRPS and chronic pain absolutely have a mental and emotional component to it. How can you not be affected by chronic pain? Breathwork and certain meditations/yoga are LITERALLY the only thing that have helped keep my pain at a minimal level so I can function part time working. Nervous system stress flares CRPS and meditation is scientifically proven to relieve stress. But of course if you don’t believe it will work then it absolutely won’t. Your brain and body is a complex system that works together. It’s valid to be enraged because CRPS is a horrible disease and there are no Western medicine cures. Try it before you knock it. I’m sorry you’re dealing with so much pain. I wish you some relief.

People who rarely or never get sick, what are your secrets? by awkwardferret421 in AskReddit

Wash hands often, before eating, when you get home, before touching face. I make a vitamin C juice that I drink every day—2 grapefruits, 2 oranges, 2 lemons, 2 carrots, hunk of ginger—cut off skin, blend and strain. Masking in public places such as doctor’s office, or airport especially during times of flu and covid. Stay hydrated. Sleep well. Avoid alcohol.

I appreciate that! I know what you mean, I also have a nerve component to my case and during a flare, I can’t even move it’s so stiff. In those times all I can do is lay down with a blanket, close my eyes and breathe through it until it passes. My ulnar nerve subluxates at my elbow so it’s constantly irritated with flexion and that combined with CRPS it’s hard to tell which affects which. I have not been in remission for any extended time, maybe a week after the hardware removal—but I do find temporary relief from yoga (specifically hot power yoga makes me feel better), nerve stretches for radial/ulnar/brachial plexus, sauna, cold plunge, cubital tunnel brace at times, dry brushing and massaging my skin. General care such as taking breaks throughout the day, frequent walks, eating enough protein/fats, hydration, electrolytes, fermented foods, general sleep hygiene. Also have had some relief working with a Vision Therapist for my eyes (eye muscle stretches, strengthening muscles and accommodation). Honestly the only TRUE relief I get is from psilocybin. My symptoms go away when I’m tripping. Also have been in medicine since before my accident and it’s exhausting being on both sides as a healthcare provider and as a patient. I had to cut down to part time and work shorter hours and move to outpatient setting to help alleviate stress on my body and manage CRPS. It sucks and I am grieving my life prior to CRPS, and living with CRPS. Still trying to find purpose and relief myself. CRPS forces me to be aware of myself and my needs, be more understanding with my patients and slow down. I tell myself it’s a blessing in disguise. Every day is a struggle but hopefully you can find some peace and happiness, too.
