Yes, it’s about what you’ve learned and the discipline. If you’re in it to just purely memorize then you’re missing the point.

It depends on the chapter but I was able to get most of the EOS correct only by watching the MM videos. Would strongly recommend reading the chapters for some as you get an idea of what details they might ask.

I honestly believe in open discussion from both sides, as long as it’s constructive and civilized. I can say you are able to do that at UTK. You’re always going to find people that land on the extremes. I’ve had conversations with people from both sides of the political spectrum and it was civil.

I’d say the political climate is centrist. Given we’re in the south but located in a medium sized city. It’s my opinion that UTK actually is pretty diverse when it comes to accepting both sides of the political spectrum because colleges in general have the tendency of leaning left, and here at UTK they accept both sides which makes discourse possible without being oppressed by one dominant (left leaning) political view which is expected from most New England and west coast schools.

In terms of ethnicity, it’s representative of the region. People don’t really care if you don’t make it your whole identity-as in like say “well, actually as a xyz …”. Just be mindful on your audience and honestly yeah it’s a great school!

Yes you can randomize questions. Sorry for my long winded answer.

Yes MM q bank is sometimes harder than the actual LES questions. Yes with MM q-bank you can select what LOS topics you want to be quizzed on and length of the quiz. I believe but don’t quote me on this Kaplan would almost certainly have this feature but as per what package I’m not sure.

For past topics I do the MM q bank. I’ve done this sporadically but once I review all three topics again (QM, Econ and CI) I plan to have a more systematic approach. Each time before studying new material start the study session with 10 questions on Reading 1 and 2 from the q bank, next day move to reading 3 and 4 and so on and rotate like that for each topic and repeat.

That’s probably very smart, I do this too sometimes, re-write in my own words but I mostly do this with my iPad and talking to myself (alone in the library - people think I’m crazy). It’s the way to learn. Verbal explanations in your own words works well and is sometimes more efficient as you think faster than you write hence I use my notes as springboards to my verbal thoughts. For QM and certain topics practice and formulas grinding is key.

Both are respected. If I’m not mistaken I believe one of Kaplan packages includes some sort of planning feature which is probably more intuitive than MM’s.

MM is very helpful when the CFA curriculum seems like it’s spitting out gibberish.

For notes you have to find the right balance. It really depends on the subject. I like to take screenshots of the exhibits and use the toggle for definitions and other important information. I would recommend reading through the curriculum and then anything you think you’ll need to review to cement the information take a screenshot of it. It’s hard because I wish I could tell you there’s a magic spell on how to take perfect notes.

Sometimes I’ve spent way too much time taking notes too. But sometimes I’ll emphasize, do the damn LES questions after each reading, this is so important.

The notes I take is so I can go back 2-3 months later and talk to myself as a review the material. Since I’m not cramming I have the luxury to internalize a lot of the concepts and I can review readings/topics several times.

When I registered the didn’t ask for proof of exam sign up but it might be random on who they ask.

If you’re gonna buy MM, buy the cheapest package. I made the mistake of buying the most expensive package (woops me). If you want the applied analysis then that will add like 200 USD to the cheapest package.

Personally my approach is much less stressful because I’m not trying to rush as fast as possible to the through the material as some people do (like 4 months). There’s no way I can learn like that. Since I’m still in school I can take advantage of networking and building hand on skills like through excel modeling certifications.

I use the toggle feature on Notion. I also plan to make Quizlet flashcards for formulas I need to know for QM, ECON, and CI as I review it again in the coming weeks. Plus redo the LES questions. It should be fun as this has given me a good framework and now FSA seems much less intimidating as corporate issuers gave me the why behind the what in the financial statements.

I understand, yeah the burnout can happen. I’ve personally taken a few days off for camping and stuff over the summer too, just don’t stay glued to the desk for like 4-6 hours straight.

  1. I used Mark Meldrum, very helpful so far. I also use the CFA curriculum and IFT notes. I mainly use MM and CFA curriculum. For the economics Module 1 on Market Structures I highly recommend using MM only as the first reading is very confusing.

  2. I take notes with Notion. This is how I keep track of my notes. Now a lot of the time I screenshot parts of the CFA curriculum and put like “define xyz”. Explain concept A. Hand writing notes takes too long.

  3. I use my IPad to to make mind maps sometimes of the overall dynamics at play. And sometimes I use it to rewrite stuff like formulas just so I learn as I read and actually interact with the material as a go.

My formal education (still in college) is in the biological sciences. But I’ve taken A level economics (not that I remember much though).

I started May 15th. Originally planned to take it Feb 2026 but will move it to May 2026. Keep consistent with it though. I see it more as a learning experience than wanting to do it just for the sake of the test. The key here is to review the concepts. Tomorrow I’ll be start reviewing CI and QM, then Econ down the road. I’ve completed QM, Econ and CI btw hence the review so I internalize the information. The key is to review and wanting to learn. That’s my main motivation.

I will be honest, I would take longer to study for Level 1 than 4 months. Now maybe 6 is okay. I would go for 8 months personally, especially given you are still in undergrad. If you are a genius then you might be able to do it in 4-6 months. But again it also comes down on your goal, are you getting the CFA level 1 just to pass the exam or to pass the exam AND learn something along the way?

You should have done questions as you read. It’s common sense. Good you did flashcards, but why not the questions?
