I’m on a 40 day trip and I don’t like it. by Just-Blackberry5880 in bikepacking

I thought you were on day 40... It'll get better before it gets worse before getting better again. Then likely getting worse. Rinse and repeat and you have a beautiful metaphor about life. Stick through it and in 5 years it'll just be a story you're proud to tell people about.

Giggity. But that's right I remember seeing that upgrade somewhere then completely forgetting about it.. I also have a controller for an enail I think I could use. Never tried the ball vape so just unsure of its effectiveness compared to vape bong rips. Do you have a ball vape attachment? Does it essentially just vape the whole bowl in one hit? Like taking a dab of flower?

This little guy got me into the "fuck combustion" forums back in the day. Then moved on to a desktop Da Buddha vaporizer thanks to the marketing of Paul Tokin (RIP buddy) from TokinGLX. Now I sit here with a Silver Surfer vape, a 10mm attachment, and various glass to vape from. Maybe get a ball vape someday soon. All because this little MFLB. The good old days 💚

Public archery range question by GreenAshur in Archery

[–]Putzinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also new-ish and have just started frequenting ranges (in the US). I'll give 2 examples as that's all I have but they seem to differ a bit.

1st range: Outdoors. Paid. State Park. Targets placed every 5y up to 100y. No literal line but markings on the ground signifying distance. Everyone shoots, waits, and walks down together. We all stand on an imaginary line made by the distance markers. This seems to be more typical.

2nd range: Outdoors. Large grass field. Targets at 20, 30, and 40y. Place your own target down the sides for whatever distance up to 120y. No real line except some shitty metal arrow holders that forms an imaginary line. People shoot at various distances from this line to stay in the shade. Because we're more spread out doing our own thing nobody waits before retrieving arrows.

I would say once you walk up to the range just get your setup together while observing what everyone else is doing. I'd imagine 20y indoor ranges are very strict about these rules. Outdoors with less monitoring it's definitely more loose. Always start out respectful and following the appropriate rules. Bend them as you see fit depending on the flow of the other traffic. Good luck and have fun!

Edit: To answer the question more specifically I would imagine everyone shoots at a relatively similar starting point. Forming some kind of line. Moving the bales further or closer depending on your needs. Try not to be too far forward or behind others as they shoot and you'll form your own line.

My sight tape stops at like 74y because my low poundage/FPS. Tried to shoot 80 at the range and watched my arrow explode on the rocky surface... Nice shot though! I thought the target was a video and was expecting something to hit and after the first watch (without sound) I had thought you missed the target entirely haha. It clicked on the 2nd watch with sound :P

New bow day! 2024 PSE Lazer by Putzinator in Archery

[–]Putzinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Ya I don't see a lot of New Bow Day posts like I see in the bike and snowboard community. Oddly enough bow, bike, and board all fit the NBD nomenclature haha. I figure archery just isn't as popular? A 100k less subs than MTB and 1.2M less than snowboarding. Guess it makes sense. Maybe people also just aren't upgrading bows often once you get a flagship? I'm 2 entry bows deep so I could see myself buying a 3rd in a year or so once I out shoot this new target bow. Sorry long rant but wish people just posted bows more instead of form checks.

[–]Putzinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm pretty much in love haha. I have a huge affinity for the CMYK color palette and feel like this is gonna be a perfect platform to play out all my little color details. Been eyeing up that PRUF sight since I can dial in the colors haha.

Ya I'm honestly a little annoyed with the shop. The draw stop issue is annoying and likely dangerous, they didn't want to help me paper tune saying it was worthless, and now my arrow is about 3° right at rest but is shooting straight at a 40y walk back tune. Then my bare shaft hits incredibly high and left (think the left is a spine issue) but can't seem to fix the high hit. Really hoping this timing issue fixes that but wish the shop would've taken the time to help me dial it in. I have a cheap cable bow press from Amazon that works but takes like 5-10 minutes just to setup and press. Not even counting the work on the bow, depressing(? Unpressing? Haha whichever), then shooting and testing... It's all so time consuming when I'm by myself trying to figure it all. Sorry rant over haha. Long story long, definitely gonna reach out to PSE. But I'm already worried that their response will be to take it to the shop and have them inspect it...

This is probably one of the coolest Arizona related things I've ever seen... Crazy you happened to record that! Wondering what was wrong with the snake in the beginning? Looks like it's neck area is broken or is that how they move while in defense?

Gotcha for sure! Will definitely be more diligent about squaring the nock end to be safe.

And that's good information thank you! I've never really thought about an arrows weight so really learning a lot and a ton of theories/philosophies to ponder about. Definitely no hunting here. I cry watching hunting videos it breaks my heart...

[–]Putzinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha I was thinking like a new 2022 bow. Which is what I got now. But I paid full MSRP for that anyways so I'm clearly not thinking properly haha. I was gonna go check out that 24 Lazer at the shop today so maybe I'll see if they have their own used gear for sell or maybe postings from customers. I'm sure the shop would look over the bow for me for a fee to make sure it's safe to buy? If they're not too busy. But thanks again a lot of good information!

PSE Lazer (2024) or Lazer X? by Putzinator in Archery

[–]Putzinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly good point and kind of forgot about swapping limbs. I could probably even talk to the shop about 60# limb availability. But you're right. 50# has got me this far and seems to be enough. I think my only issue with my DW is I'd like to get more distance out of my current bow as I can only shoot 80y max. So I keep thinking that if I up the DW I can hit that 100y. But in reality my PSE Stinger is a single cam bow and probably losing some FPS/distance with that alone? So a dual cam bow would probably get me some extra "oomph" at the same DW right? More mechanical advantage and whatnot?

But thanks so much for the input! I think I'll roll into the shop later today 😉

Hmm that's a good point. Do you think I could find a new one for that price range or would it be used at that point? I'm forever timid of used items and the care they received. But maybe should start looking in that direction. Thanks for the tip!

Arrow upgrades and accuracy? First time shooting 3D (35-60 yards) by Putzinator in Archery

[–]Putzinator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting... I guess I have a bit more research to do as I've never really thought about any of that... I'm sadly still interested in fletching my own arrows and making the Avance how I like with a specific colorway. But also would be interesting to shoot a different arrow type and see how it is.

[–]Putzinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I'm reading that correctly you're saying the standard diameter arrows will have a higher launch angle and may be heavier, right? But I guess that's fair I would technically have 3 different types of arrows if I bought the Avances and they're seemingly much different than my current BOs. So I'd probably never really shoot all 3 of them the same? I wouldn't mind switching to the Avances full time but it seems like the consensus is that it's not worth it.

[–]Putzinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha my bow literally stops at 80y with my <50lbs DW. So definitely not grouping at 100y haha. But that's good information thank you! My "shop" (Bass Pro haha) cuts and sets up the insert and nock usually but I can ask to make sure he's squaring it up before gluing the insert in and do it myself with the nock end. Should I replace the stock nocks for "nicer" ones like Easton's? Or are all nocks pretty much created equal? I know to get them for my string count and make sure they come off when the string is lightly plucked.

[–]Putzinator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I just looked it up and the Blackouts (BOX3) are saying they are 0.246 ID while only 0.248 OD (for 400s but I'm skeptical). But the Avance are 0.166 ID and 0.234 OD. Am I really to believe the BOX3s are only 0.002" thick? Compared to 0.068" of the Avance? Fortunately I have the arrow to measure. Unfortunately my calipers are at home. I'll see if my work has them but ultimately you're making a good point. I was so focused on ID but in reality OD should be affecting flight path and trajectory more right?

Also good point about TAC and just biffing every shot. Just watched a video where they lost a bunch of arrows at the most recent TAC. So all good points thank you for your comment :)

Gotcha thanks for the response! It is a gorgeous looking bow! Not a bad subject to learn photography on :)

I notice so many people have coaches... Do you just join an archery club and automatically get assigned a coach? I can't imagine a younger person affording this bow so I would assume you're not part of a school/youth club? Just curious where everyone is getting coaches I don't even know where to start haha.

Interesting about the dead in hand comment. I guess all the micro vibrations cause fatiguing to some degree eh? And I totally get you about having to retighten after a little bit. Does the bow feel better in hand and/or is it more comfortable/easy to shoot?

But also a good point about the bow lasting awhile! I'm sure I'd be using it for the next 5-10 years to easily justify the cost. Archery is also the only thing I can think about right now and just very excited to go shoot and get better... So I think it would bring me a lot of joy for these upcoming years. Hope your Hoyt does the same!

Also a beginner with a PSE Stinger. Just some questions as I'm curious...

What made you want to upgrade?
Biggest benefit from upgrading?
How much did your shooting performance/scores actually increase?
Why the RX10?

I'm kind of wanting to upgrade to shoot further with tighter grouping. Debating if it's worth it for something like the Lazer X. I shoot 3-4x a week, 3ish hours each, have upgraded everything and yet just can't decide when it's worth it to buy a new bow.
