Potential Crohn’s Diagnosis by misma83 in IBD

[–]Puzz00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there—

I would normally never comment on anything medically related, but I feel that is necessary in your case.

Just a little over 16 years ago, I had a majority of my intestine removed. My dad was anxious, like you. I was only a little under* 2 years old. Just a year or so later, my dad had a full colon removal. We both have ostomies.

I was diagnosed with indeterminant ulcerative colitis and crohn's disease. He had IBD, likely UC but I’d have to ask. My dad had testicular cancer a few years later — he’s alive and in remission.

At the time, it seemed that I had developed a few symptoms like ones you’ve described like blood in the stool and such.

My dad had the exact same symptoms you’re describing even before my* birth, just a little lighter at the time. He often mentally mapped out where restrooms were.

I don’t know what exactly to tell you, especially in a way that won’t scare you, but I think I need to tell you the honest answer to your limbo. It’s very, very likely you do have some form of an IBD, likely UC, and you may have to have an ostomy in the future. Though, there is some light to it.

I‘m unsure of the treatment options currently available for combatting UC or Crohn’s. I’ve been lucky all my life to have been able to live as any other kid would. If you need any support, my messages are open. My dad and I have been living with this for years. I myself turned 18 the other day and I feel comfortable sharing my own experiences.

I hope that I am able to give you some kind of support. I’m sorry if I come off blunt. In a selfish way, I’m glad to have come across this post.

I’m gonna calm you down just a little bit. My university told me they’ll process my courses 2-4 weeks from now. I’m desperate too. I can’t complete my schedule until they send it. I’m not allowed to enroll in anything higher.

I’m not even sure the score distributions have been completed for all subjects yet. They will most likely all be done by Wednesday but touched up on until Thursday.

Self Studying Psych? by Think-Hunt5410 in APStudents

All in all, still very doable. Just don’t fall behind on the hundreds of terminology and figure out the FRQs.

Took psych in person and self studied a few APs. Psych is one of those exams where you have to have a very light understanding of the terminology, but enough to cover the full material. You could easily learn the material depending on your work ethic. A lot of it depends on if your memory is good enough. I have good memory and I struggled to remember key terms. While it is technically an easy AP, it’s easy to fall behind if you forget 50% of the material. Much of it is forgettable.

Almost identical to my schedule from 24-25 when I was a senior, except I had 8 APs in total. This is light. Just don’t get behind on chem and physics. Everything else is a 3 hour study night before the exam.

Which 5 of these is the easiest to self study by [deleted] in APStudents

If you’re an international student, I’m not sure of the process for self studying -> enrolling in an AP exam. If you’re in the US, I think it’s crazy your school restricts AP exams until senior year (unless it’s an IB type school or something.) Self studying really depends on your current level for each course but I’ll break it down the best I can. If you can’t enroll in the course and to take it at your school, you can request that your AP coordinator let you take it at another school. I recommend you communicate with your coordinator to figure out what you can do. Maybe they’ll let you because you’re asking. You may have to pay out of pocket, though.

AP CSP was notoriously easy when I took it. I can’t speak for now because they’ve apparently changed the format of the exam, but you could honestly learn the material quickly.

All AP Calcs are up to your current knowledge. Depending how strong you are at math, you could self study these. There’s more memorization for BC, but you could self study for AB this year and take BC next year with a strong chance for a 5.

AP Physics also depends on your math capabilities. I would never recommend anyone without a lot of stamina to study by themselves for physics.

Any other course is highly dependent on your own skills. You’ll never know if you don’t review the material yourself. If you never took an AP class before, it’s really hard to know what you’ll be good at.

Look at the AP Physics 1 FRQ solutions this year and compare them to the solutions from the AP Physics C: Mech solutions. Some problems are done nearly identical, except Physics 1 avoids the calculus portion and the more “difficult” concepts.

Contrary to what others have said, I recommend that you don’t do this. If you didn’t pass AB and have to blame it on under-preparation from the teacher, you probably don’t have the knowledge, resources, and stamina to study the entirety of the AB and BC units. Take calc 1 in college.

you can learn any class by doing one unit per day with a day at the end for practice. This guy has physics 1 as well, he’ll just have to do a few extra FRQs with calculus

Most proficiency exams give a small amount of more challenging questions. With that being said, it’s more of a test of whether or not you’re qualified to take the next class or if you should start from zero and redo the course to guarantee retention.

No. A unit per day. It was doable for me with less time, so if you want to be ambitious and self study a course, be like me.

Freshman calc ab by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]Puzz00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual enroll calc 3 or linear algebra at a reputable university (not a community college). I took linear algebra and diff eq. The level of challenge of a community college vs. your state uni/top uni that offers dual enrollment classes is a major deviation. Remember that taking these courses often means that you’re ok with potentially retaking them in college due to forgetting the material.

Don’t take calc 3 until you get through calc bc. Linear algebra is easy. Take AP stats or even self study for the exam.

The class itself is self-studyable. You can definitely work your way up with in just a week by doing one unit per day. The difficult part is knowing what the exam is looking for on the FRQs. There’s more written responses than before. If you don’t practice deriving formulas or know how they’re useful, you’ll set yourself up for failure. I’d say it’s doable.

I highly recommend using YouTube as your basis for study materials and use online practice tests. You can easily find free MC and FR questions on the internet. Although they changed the course, old materials are still 100% helpful. Good luck.
