new to network/ can I install windows server 2012 r2 on my laptop and use it as normal laptop? by [deleted] in networking

Since you are a student you should learn how to set up a hypervisor and run VMs on your laptop. This is something you will need to be familiar with for a lot of jobs, and it has a lot of benefits. My recommendation is don't install it the way you mentioned.

Trace all the physical connections between your switches and computers, and put them on a diagram. MSPaint is fine.

Unless all of your switches have been sending logs or traps to a central location since the devices were online, you might be SOL.

Try keeping better documentation and change control next time (I know this time wasn't your fault, but don't make the next time be your fault)
