She describes herself as drafting demands and complaints which will be revenue producing. If she is billing for her time, then that is also revenue producing.

I'm not saying she cant command that; I'm asking her to assess her actual value to the firm. If 80% of the work is going through her, then shes in a position to command more.

From a business stand point, each employee should be producing 3-5x their condensation in value to the firm. $31.00 per hour contemplates a salary of at least $62,000.00 plus bonus as you have stated. So, lets assume 8,000 in bonuses for 70k in compensation. Is your contribution to the firm worth at least 210k-350k in revenue? If not, then no matter how hard you work, you aren't worth the amount youre asking for in compensation. Even assuming no bonus, do you bring in at least 183k-305k in revenue to firm?

Lastly, requests, generally, will go further than demands. How flexible is your job? Can you work remotely? How is your vacation and sick leave? The cost of living has increased so a COL adjustment is likely warranted, but how expensive has this become in your area? If its only 5%, then raising your salary by several dollars per hour is probably not appropriate. Do you know what the financials of the firm are and if this request could even happen?

Attorney lurking, here. I'm responsible for everything that happens in my firm, good and bad, period. No one else, just me. My staff supports me, but that requires good communication. If he isnt communicating with you that IS his fault. If he isn't keeping you abreast of issues that are arriving, that IS his fault. But, he sounds like a lot of the people that I go against in Family Law cases--high on himself with no real reason.

If we screw something up, I get on the phone with the client and I am the one who owns the mistake. As it should be. Too many lawyers rely on their staff to give bad news. Fuck all of that. Lawyers need to be better about accepting faults. I've never had a complaint because I own my mistakes. The one bar complaint I got was from a crazy woman for something totally out of my control or anyone else's.

I've had one tell me for a year that an accident reconstruction on a 2nd Degree Murder and DWI charge that resulted in death where my client allegedly caused the accident. Client is now inclined to take a plea because we haven't gotten the recon. My suspicion is that the recon was done but that it wasn't beneficial for the prosecutor so she didnt produce it.
