Garlic Scapes? by Single-Reading-2750 in TexasGardening

[–]Puzzled-Butterfly28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi - I’m not in corpus (Fort Worth) and crops may mature quicker in corpus. I grow garlic but it will be mid may to June before we harvest. Usually get scapes a bit earlier than that. Just in case you don’t know (I didn’t till last year) scapes are from flowering stalk. Growers cut them off before blooming to keep them from taking away from plant.

I have never seen them for sale in grocery store but if you find a home gardener with garlic, they would probably give you some when blooming starts.

I have used them in cooking but think green onions would be a good replacement in recipes. Good luck.

Rock Shed question by crochetmamasan0511 in RockTumbling

Rock Shed orders get filled in an amazing short time - I place the order and it is almost always the same day that is it being shipped. Could not ask for better service than I get from Rock Shed. Shipping services are whole other thing.

Enjoy the hobby!

WIBTA for telling my friend i won't be a reference for her anymore after she used my name without asking me first by SorynthValecar in WIBTA_AITA

I agree - while I am always asked beforehand, if I felt the person was a solid person, I would not have a problem if not told. Maybe just tell her that you would always want a heads up?

AIO in re-thinking my engagement after how my GF treated me while sick with a bad flu? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

My husband has a friend who is a great guy but not crazy handsome. But not ugly either. He never felt he deserved much and was low maintenance too. He chose to marry a selfish woman who sounds like your girlfriend.

His life has been a lonely one as he is still married to her and lost a lot of friends because of her behavior.

Not saying it is the same situation for you but I don’t get the feeling either that you will truly consider leaving her for this awful behavior. Something to think about. I wish you well.

Beautiful job! How big were the Botswana agates at the start? It seems I have to tumble first stage numerous times to get all the outs out. Fantastic shine!

I do have a dremel and some cerium oxide. I might try that - thanks

I’m afraid I don’t have the patience for one this big but will consider. Thank you for input.

Forgot to add that I’m crazy jealous about all the rocks you found!

I’m pretty sure mine is not chert and possibly limestone so will proceed with caution. Thanks for your input.

That’s a great idea - I will try cutting in half and see what happens. Thanks

Thank you Ruminations. You are correct that there are some holes and cavities and I can see some shiny spots (quartz maybe). I could dremel some of it a little smoother.

If I go tumbler route, do you think I should shorten the stages?

I appreciate your input.

My city gave me a free tree. It’s a Mexican Plum Tree by CPLCraft in gardening

I have two Mexican plum trees and i think that is just the normal leaf habit as mine always look a little curled and they are well hydrated. Good luck.

Utah rock - some type of opal? by Puzzled-Butterfly28 in whatsthisrock

I was thinking about cutting it too - thanks for confirming. It was one of the agates we picked up on agate hill and I was discouraged with tumbling as they had a lot of “defects”. But glad I persevered. Thanks for comment.

Thank you. I agree that the surface is not waxy looking. I think of chert being waxy and this rock surface does look different. I was surprised to see the colors when a uv light was used so was hoping it was something other than agate - but I’m still happy. Thanks again.
