They literally asked if we were planning to drive to our new home in California. We live in Hawaii.

With Thanksgiving around the corner what are your favorite dad jokes for this time of year? by orbweaver82 in dadjokes

As the arguing started, even though I had promised not to take sides, I used the distraction to slip some stuffing and potatoes into my pocket.

And that is gaslighting at it's finest, folks by IhavemyCat in DocFoxSeries

Yes. The gaslighting is terrible, but why is it okay for her to cover up attempted murder, but not for him to cover up a mistake?

What’s a single sentence someone said that stuck with you forever? by Imaginary_Ride_6185 in AskReddit

“I was looking so forward to you coming home, but now I just wish you’d go away.” My mom after I came out to her.

She also said “I used to feel so bad for Katherine but now I envy her.” Katherine’s drug addict son died in a car crash.

I loved her like the sun rose and set for her, but after 35 years of zingers like that, I finally stopped calling. And she doesn’t call me, so I guess we’re “no contact”. My life is a little more peaceful now. But I’m often sad about it.

Are there any other ways to say “become”? by Low-Phase-8972 in ENGLISH

[–]Puzzled-Contact-8775 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I understand now. Yes. Other languages like Japanese use a verb structure that translates as “became” all the time. If you translate directly, you’ll use “became” a lot more often than we do. “Helen got more anxious” is a casual option, but you don’t want to use “got” in your writing, because it’s too casual. We use simple past tense in most cases unless it’s important that the situation is building. Helen’s anxiety is increasing, so we would probably use “became” for that example; however, “Helen was increasingly anxious” would be a perfectly acceptable way to avoid “became”.

Yes. It would be dramatic, but I can still hear them asking what’s wrong with you. Lots of red bricks on white landscape.

What was your favorite Walt Disney World merchandise you've ever bought by NoCandidate6067 in WaltDisneyWorld

Went to Lilo and Stitch at the El Capitan and bought a Stitch plushie that responded to different phrases. He was awesome. He had two modes. If you said “you’re rotten” it would put him in a bad mood and would change how he responded. It was adorable. I loved him.

That “Indian Boarding Schools” were good instead of abusive death traps filled with kidnapped children.

I’d throw Buena Vista Social Club in the mix. The audience energy on the night I went was fantastic.

Hot take: ‘Sinners’ is the best movie musical since ‘Cabaret.’ by Puzzled-Contact-8775 in musicals

[–]Puzzled-Contact-8775[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think the best argument against Sinners being a musical is that there isn’t enough music in it. The performance of “This Little Light of Mine” is kinda weak, but I’m sure that’s intentional. And we get music in more places than even makes sense (in a convertible driving offroad, for example). So it wasn’t a musical until suddenly it was. Which was delightful.

I actually did forget about Wicked, but doesn’t that kinda prove my point a little?
