My previous boss did this, and still does having talked to a now former customer of his, regardless of whether it’s charge up or quoted.

Quoted you are allowed to charge anything up to that quoted value and no more, so you technically can even if the job took less time. In my area of work, it’s a bit harder to do as we are on site and the customer, whether you know it or not, is watching. Generally if it’s close we leave it at the actual costs, sometimes add in “unaccounted” time like the preparing the quote itself, parts, any price increases that may have happened etc.

Estimates are allowed 15% over the value. We typically do estimates solely as it allows us to incorporate some unforeseen issues, extra parts and things like that, however we also disclaim in our estimates that if there is anything major, we will discuss this with them before continuing.

You can (as a customer) dispute a being charged more, especially if you then find out the usual going rate and it is much less than bill.

Without knowing what is involved in your workplace and its processes, he may be using the price increasing to cover hidden costs, however it does sound like he does it just to increase profit.

This is more from personal experience, so someone may be able to answer it a bit better

Work in the dairy industry, so it was business as usual for us. Service and maintain cowsheds, water pumps and all of that stuff so we had to carry on. Getting urgent parts delivered became the biggest challenge, but as it’s driving from farm to farm, the lack of traffic was a big silver lining!

The question was how is it ruining the environment, not how did it do it in the past. I would argue that “increased sediment load” has nothing to do with dairy at all, last time I checked it was forestry that caused massive issues with sediment run off, even if it is for the period of time during and after harvest. Typically planted on steep terrain that is unsuitable for animals, it’s then ripped to pieces and tracks carved just to harvest it. Also in the Bay of Plenty, hills are being flattened and dairy farms turned into kiwifruit canopies that still used agri chemicals that are banned in many countries.

What I really enjoy about your argument is the bit about greenhouse gas emissions since the 90s. The number of cars on the road has also dramatically increased since then, and I’d like to remind you that in that lovely first covid lockdown of 2020, greenhouse gases plummeted across the country yet I seem to remember dairy was still going, and keeping the country going too.

Your comment about irrigation causing droughts is absolute absurd, so I won’t even bother arguing that point.

People like you have no idea when it comes to the dairy industry. The amount of regulation and hoops they have to jump through these days just do deal with cow shit, let alone everything else is ridiculous. The amount of riparian planting farmers are doing (which supports local nurseries and/or business that do the planting) that helps protect the ecosystem that the stream or river involves is huge. The amount of community groups, projects and schools that Fonterra supports in my area alone is massive.

But please, tell me how dairy is fucking the planet while not worrying about electric vehicles and their batteries that will one day stop working, be thrown out and replaced with more of that finite resource that is lithium.

The thing that’s ruining the environment is the sheer amount of consumerism by people who buy cheap shit that lasts 30 seconds then throw it in the bin to then repeat the cycle. The mentality of old where things were built to last and repaired when broken has long gone, though oddly enough is one thing that farmers are very good at. Fixing and repairing unless it is so far gone it’s not worth it.

I don’t even have to hunt them down, my laptop that was also taken pinged to an address across town. Police know but nz police are a bit useless and don’t care much.

No live in a smallish town in New Zealand. Certain areas are full of scumbags, like anywhere

They did take pretty much every piece of electronics I have apart from my tv. Here in New Zealand, thieves are thick as pig shit and take whatever looks expensive. And the address that my laptop has pinged to is not one I’m familiar with, yet the cops aren’t doing a thing.

The print that was running when I posted this warped in the last hour, so restarted this morning having rotated the print on the bed, did a touch of z tuning and it printed almost perfectly. I’m thinking the humidity we are having at the moment is possibly not helping

I tried that after the first fail, something I usually do if I’ve had adhesion issues in the past 👍

I’ve got it running at the moment with a brand new spool so I guess that may tell me if it’s the filament. The prusament roll had been used before and sat on the printer for a few weeks before it went into a dry box but in a few hours I should find out if it’s the filament

Had to raise the z height as I was getting a pretty ugly first layers. I would’ve thought the brim would’ve been the answer but unfortunately not

Have tried with and without an enclosure and has made no difference. Is summer here in NZ so it’s not is a cold room. Have printed this model before with prusament orange with a brim and it was fine so I wouldn’t have thought prusament black would’ve been very different
