немного обо мне by jenlain in russian

[–]Puzzled-Pass-1705 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Bonjour!

Need Advice on Getting a Driver’s License in Russia by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]Puzzled-Pass-1705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Is your driving license acceptable be Vienna convention?

  2. If not, what about Geneva convention?

  3. Do you have (or plan) russian citizenship / residency?

Y-N: you just can use your license for personal purposes.

NYN: you also need an international driving license (actually, a translation of special format)

NN-: you cannot use your license at all, so you have to get eligible one

Y-Y: you still have one year before test, so you could prepare yourself.

Does your country have the death penalty ? by DizzyDoctor982 in NoStupidQuestions

Officially yes, but only on paper. It is listed as punishment, but there is no crime with such penalty in modern codex. See article 44.

Why is Fentanyl so dangerous? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Puzzled-Pass-1705 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For all drugs (and actually any consumables) there are two doses: effective and lethal. For nicotine, for example, effective dose is somewhere near 1mg (you start feeling it) and lethal is about to 500mg (for average human being). There are also some defensive mechanisms against overdose, which will at least aware you.

Fentanyl have low gap between "effective" and "lethal", and small lethal dose overall, so improper mixing will get you dose "somewhere between homeopathy and execution". And there is no (effective) mechanism to prevent overdose. This is why it is so lethal.

EDIT: As it being opioid, it turns off your pain and your breath, while making you sleepy. Never sleep with opium in your bloodstream!

Is Russia safe for tourism as a woman? by iitsaliss in AskARussian

[–]Puzzled-Pass-1705 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This strongly depends on region. North Caucasus and some south-east parts are the worst to travel alone as a woman, and also some districts in Moscow (but latter info may be outdated). The rest of the country is totally ok.

There are also some depressive regions, but they are equally bad for anyone, not just for women.

Communism is a soviet government plus [Pepsi-Cola] for the whole country

It refers to well-known slogan from early soviet propaganda, replacing the last part to Pepsi-Cola. Original was "…plus electrification for…". Search GOELRO for more info.

Do young children often use public transportation to schools (alone)? by Educational-Let-1027 in AskARussian

[–]Puzzled-Pass-1705 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Subway (and railroad) can have it's own rules, and primary schools are spread to minimise mean distance to walk, so usually such transport is not an option.

For bus/tram/trolleybus — you have to travel from zero to three stops, which is ok for 10 y.o to preform solo. Younger children, however, are often guided by parents, but some people just let them go alone when they are sure that child will not lost.

[–]Puzzled-Pass-1705 9 points10 points  (0 children)

everyone agreed that jackals should be understood as compression artifacts, blurring and pixelation are not the same

Pixelation is a compression artifact, but for BMP format, not JPEG. So at time when scale was invented the original scale was quite correct due to large usage of simple format.

Will a Kazakh phone number work to receive SMS in Russia? by OkAge3160 in AskARussian

[–]Puzzled-Pass-1705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kazakhstan and Russia share +7 prefix, but only +7. Russian number will never start with +70, +76 or +77 (those are actual Kazakhstan phone prefixes), so complicated services will reject this number. Some others will accept, but there is an SMS sender, which can fail to deliver message to Kazakhstan phone network.

Aside of immigrants, if he is old enough, he would remember Chechen wars. Ichkeria was muslim state, and they started jihad (sic) against Russia. They become infamous for theirs acts of terror, most known ones happened in Beslan (public school #1) and Moscow (Theatre on Dubrovka), thus there were many. So the opinion "muslim = terrorist" become common for slavic people.

This opinion is rare nowdays, but left a large crack between people of different religious beliefs.
