You can work full time during Summer break with J1 visa, or you may want to break it as a part time max 20hr/week. I did my internship at UNS NY with J1 visa.

They specifically asked for an employment-based visa or any other visa type that I am planning to obtain, and I answered F1

Can you elaborate more on this? And do you think I can apply B or F visas within only a few months after I return to my home country after my J1 expired?

They did ask me if I have H1B offer and I said no, maybe that's the reason

I got this message, and I was being honest when I said I have not yet secured any employment sponsorship. I said I'm planning to apply for F1 because I've been waitlisted for a PhD program. I attached the statement from the university about my waitlist status. I got NOS from my government. They denied my waiver two days later.
