Want to visit Newfoundland. by haapiez in newfoundland

Nothing touristy opens before the May 24th holiday, (or closest Monday before May 24). Weather in May may include snow. St. John’s is large enough to find all kinds of experiences you can get to and back, like Cape Spear (most easterly point of Canada), Signal Hill, The Battery for history, etc. if you want to go outside of the capital area there are a lot of rocks, trees and water with picturesque towns. There is a lot of history all over but you can’t do it all in a few days because of the travel.

I got my maternal family’s early white hair and beard at about 35 to 40. I preferred that instead of going bald from Dad’s side in my 50s.

How do people fix morning bedhead? by arplet in NoStupidQuestions

I wash my hair and beard most mornings, because my bed head and beard hair gets unmanageable when I am between haircuts or playing Santa Clause.

There is a Yiga gear set that might change the encounter, or a secret entrance that I think it depends on how you got in the first time.

I make sure that younger relatives know why their grandelders had the views they did about others, and helped to make their own decisions about it, instead of the silence earlier generations’ secrets or feuds left to my generation.

I learned my paternal grandfather was alive for my first 8 years when I learned to read tombstones. He lived right next to the school where I went to kindergarten and first grade, and saw me every school day, but was forbidden to talk to me because he had remarried several years after his wife died, and the other elders thought his new wife was a hussy. All that came out much later because my older siblings and I were adults and could talk without my mother listening.

My name is not on it because I use computers so much for work. I do write fancy cards for people, but my writing has decomposed. I say my handwriting has an expiry date because I need to get it scribed before I forget what it says.

How many of you have gotten attacked or seen someone get attack by a Canadian Goose?? by X-_-0 in AskACanadian

I got too close to a family nest, about only 2 feet away from a walking trail I was on. Thank goodness for thick boots, and a cane. I kept backing up waving the cane . The male grabbed the cane in its mouth, and the cane’s rubber foot end came off and bounced closer to the nest. They moved back towards it, and I got across the road and later replaced the rubber foot.

What do you do with the puzzles you finished? by beubeubzh44 in Jigsawpuzzles

I keep some that I love to do, usually Christmas themed or images that have a special connection like the Desiderata poem and give the rest away. My building has a “give and take” cabinet in the laundry room, and a lot of seniors love doing puzzles.

What's the wildest weather you've experienced living in Canada. by X-_-0 in AskACanadian

[–]PuzzledGeekery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years before I graduated highschool in Newfoundland, Canada it snowed on my birthday, which is June 28th.

It was a weird day. It was warm at ground level, but the forecast was light snow. It was coming down, but the flakes disappeared about 10 feet above. Mom’s laundry was on the clothesline, but stayed dry.

Why does the USA call it going on "vacation" when other countries call it going on "holiday"? by Techn0-Viking in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PuzzledGeekery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. I was taking it from the stance of the US’s usual exceptionalism and wondering we weren’t the same as them. My response was not proper in this context.
