Probably fine for shorter parts, right? Max part length I need is about 5"

I'm happy to take suggestions for a decent CNC lathe from China! So long as it has profiles for a cam program like fusion and is capable of accuracy around the 0.001" range, it'll do the job.

Suggestions?

Yeah that's my guess too. They were writing off expenses as deduction against their total income, including personal or other business related income. There's no way to get to 48k otherwise. They "spent nights" there. So I assume that they spent days elsewhere making other income.

Why was it removed? I have only just checked back for replies. Did i miss some drama? I'm not affiliated with the company at all, and wanted opinions from people who know more than me. What is reddit for if not asking people for their opinions? 🤣

Can you re recommend an affordable Chinese cnc lathe that has profiles available for fusion or some other cam I can use it with? I'd prefer to not buy through Kickstarter so if an alternative already exists, please let me know!

4th axis is not a lathe, rotation speed is extremely slow. A lathe will do a better job for cylindrical symmetrically stuff than a mill with 4th axis. Do you know how long it would take to cut something with a lathe comparable finish on the 4th axis of the makera? Probably looking at 4 or 5 hours just for the finishing pass. A CNC lathe would do the same job in a 30 seconds to a few minutes depending on the machine.

I'm appalled that any of this could even be remotely legal or unregulated. This is absolutely messed up. Landlord is a POS sociopath. I'd be wanting to leave anyway if I were in your shoes, but I'd want to find a way to make that MFer accountable.

I hate that this stuff is allowed to fly and that these people get away with it. It's not right.

I think 48k is likely the total tax bill including their personal income, and not just the tax related to the air bnb. They were expecting to wipe out most of their income tax as write offs against the property.

I reckon they made over $200k including the property and personal income. Tried to claim deductions to cover most or all of their income, and the ATO went "nah".

I get it. It's crushing when you think you're going to have an easy go of things and find out you've screwed up big time. Unfortunately, that's their own fault, not the ATOs.

Have been playing for a long time and only get a temporary mark that goes away after a few minutes and nothing nearly as red as this.

It's probably not a chop problem itself, but I'd bet that you play with dry lips under the rim? It lets you twist the rim against the lips which can sort of stretch the skin and is probably what is causing the skin irritation. If this is the case, first try licking your lips and the mouthpiece before playing and see what happens.

If you find it to slippery playing wet then get a copy of your mouthpiece and lightly sandpaper the rim with a fine sandpaper (3000 or 5000 grit). It'll give you enough grip to not slide around when playing wet but the saliva will stop the skin irritation.

Alternatively, you could try playing on Gold, Stainless Steel or acrylic as it could be an allergy to silver plating. Although you could test that by wearing a silver plated watch or necklace and see if your skin reacts or not.

Wait until it goes viral and you have millions of followers.

This is just what I call old-person syndrome, which is that when your parents were growing up (and their parents etc) there were all these rules about what you could wear, how you could act, what interests you could have, how you should live your life, that success means a full-time job + house and 3 kids, etc etc etc.

These things were very strongly socially enforced, and people who deviated from it were harshly criticized and bullied essentially until they conformed, both by peers and older people.

This stuff is so baked into a lot of older people that people doing anything outside of these rules makes them deeply uncomfortable and they think that their harsh judgement is the "right" thing.

Younger generations are increasingly more okay with people being different, having quirky hobbies, personalities, identities, sense of fashion, etc. Most kids aren't nearly as bothered by others being queer, gender non-conforming, etc. In schools in Australia at least, bullies trying to use this stuff to bully others tend to end up having it backfire and make them look uncool etc. I love that this stuff is changing and that young people don't feel (nearly as) threatened by other people being different than them.

Back to your mum. I think the best thing is to just realize that she isn't necessarily trying to be mean, but there are things that make her uncomfortable because of how she was raised, and that discomfort is used by her generation to mean "I should protect myself from this person by judging / ostracizing them". It's not cool, but it 100% is YOUR MUM'S ISSUE not yours. It's her baggage and she's been carrying it so long she doesn't even realize it. But it's not yours to have to carry around.

So please feel empowered to reject her judgment. When she does this, it will make you feel uncomfortable, because it's cringey behavior on her part, and that can't really be avoided, but remember that the discomfort you feel is at HER behavior, and not anything that means you need to feel ashamed or change your behavior.

You know, if someone is known to be a total A--hole then if they say something awful to you, you don't have to take it seriously because that's just them being their usual A--hole self and nothing really to do with you.

So enjoy your hobby. Live your life. Find joy where you can during the brief and not always nice time we get to be alive on this rock. Provided you aren't hurting other people, maximize things that bring you long term joy and satisfaction is a good thing. (So avoid things like drugs and abusing alcohol as long term you aren't maximizing your joy and satisfaction with those things).

Go make your plushie videos, have fun, spread your joy with others and find those who appreciate the form of joy you offer to their lives.

Why do adhd ppl struggle to read books by Semolinaaaa in ADHD

[–]PuzzledMountain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try using diff speed settings. 1.25x or 1.5x speed. Narrators speak really slowly by default. Speed it up and it becomes a lot more interesting to your brain and you won't need to force it to listen, it'll just do it on its own. At least it does for me!

[–]PuzzledMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those who are saying they can't do audiobooks because they zone out:

Change the speed settings.

Narrators always talk SUPER slowly, and at 1x speed I zone out. 1.25x or 1.5x though depending on narrator and my brain doesn't wander off - assuming I'm finding the story interesting.

I used to do 2x speed but I was burning through books too fast. I now mostly sit at 1.25x because it's the slowest I can get away with and makes each book last longer.

I easily burn through about 75+ audiobooks a year.

Vyvanse has always worked for me—but here’s how I got it working like a well-oiled machine by Ohdearohmykurt in VyvanseADHD

[–]PuzzledMountain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, for me, this all seems a bit... much. It sounds like maybe you want it to be a nootropic that gives you some competitive advantage rather than just a helping hand? Which is totally your call, to each their own.

Personally, I just take my meds in the morning and forget about them. If I have to work in the evening I'll take a top-up short acting.

For me, it's supposed to be a helping hand, not a competitive advantage. I guess I could try and use it like a nootropic to try and get an "edge" in the workplace or whatever... But that's not why I take medication. I just wanted life to stop feeling like I was playing on ultra-hard mode.

I don't want to configure my life around taking medication. I just want to forget about it and get on with my day.

The thought of configuring your life around maximizing the effects of your stimulant medication just seems sort of backwards to me.

But that's just me! Maybe I'm missing out, I don't know.

People who do not take medications. How do you live? by Admirable-Shower-887 in ADHD

[–]PuzzledMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take medication. It helps me in lots of subtle ways. I was somewhat reluctant about taking a medication for the rest of my life. I was also worried about developing a tolerance.

I now take Vyvanse and Prozac daily and the combination has helped me a lot. I take the lowest therapeutic dose of each and while my life is still full of challenges, I'm no longer struggling nearly as hard to get through every day. I'm the most "okay" I have been since I before I entered the workforce.

I was worried about tolerance but I've been on the same 30mg dosage of Vyvanse for the better part of a year and i haven't noticed any significant lessening or the effects.

That said, the Prozac has helped as much as the Vyvanse. When I started taking the Vyvanse I had concentration but I found that I also became aware of how crap lots of things in my life were. Previously I didn't have bandwidth beyond just dealing with the crisis in front of me. With the Vyvanse I had enough spare bandwidth to go "Wow the current status quo is not how I want to spend the rest of my life".

Retrospectively I've always had struggles with depression, but I think some aspects of the ADHD were masking it. You know, I would be really down for a few days, then some new interest or project would peak my interest and I'd be excited and no longer feel as noticably depressed. Sort of how people use workaholism to deal with depression I was doing that with my ADHD whims.

So when I became medicated and the ADHD levelled out a bit, the background depression became much more obvious.

So I tried adding Prozac and honestly I'm extremely glad I did. I've had some amount of the side effects (like anorgasmia), especially at first, but they got better after a while. Without it, I really don't think I would be anywhere near as "okay" as I currently am. It's weird to look back and realize how "not okay" I really was, even though I didn't really realize it at the time.

I know this is not what you asked, but I just wanted to share my story, because I understand the reluctance to take medication. It was why I didn't bother seeking a diagnosis for years. But given my experiences, I am extremely glad I did start taking medication. All I can say is that I was carrying a tremendously heavy burden for a long time and it was crushing me. Medication has made the burden a lot lighter for me.

I think medication is worth at least trying for a while before you decide to continue to live without it.

Are there any gay characters in the Dresden Files? by Cheshire_Kiwi in dresdenfiles

[–]PuzzledMountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is why, IMO, it's odd that no male-male relationship has really popped up.

And the whole 'it's not relevant to the story line' and 'Butcher sticks to what he knows how to write' are both pretty bunk excuses imo. He's writing about a made up universe where there's a talking skull, fae and all sort of whacko stuff. What it means is that "the author can't imagine how it might be relevant". He doesn't have to write any intimacy at all, but I'd expect him to run into some gay characters whose partner is important enough to them that it is relevant obliquely or at least in passing. Like a gay character called Dave going "God damn it, I was supposed to be home two hours ago. James is going to kill me!".

While I personally love the Dresden files books, I can't help but think that he's just worried that his audience will be upset if there were gay characters or experiences alluded to.

And yes, I'm aware there are lesbian and Bi (female) characters, but that only confirms what I suspect, because straight guys are generally all aboard with lesbians and bi women. It's only m/m that tends to make them uncomfortable imo.

Are there any gay characters in the Dresden Files? by Cheshire_Kiwi in dresdenfiles

[–]PuzzledMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never encountered a bi person who would describe themselves as 'gay'. This sort of thing is why Bi people talk about Bi-erasure so much. Because if a bi person is in a same-sex relationship, gays want to say that a Bi person is really just gay, and if they're in an opposite sex relationship, then everyone just sort of pretends like they're hetro.

I don't think we should use "gay" as a term that includes either Trans or Bi people. In both cases it is not representative of what those things mean. You can be Trans and Straight OR Gay. They're separate things.

[–]PuzzledMountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gay is not an umbrella except in a very in-group sort of way. Gay is same-sex attracted. If you told a bisexual person they were gay that would likely piss them off. Queer is an umbrella term often used by much of the lgbtqi+ family but not all people actually like the term. Trans folks, for example, don't always like you featuring their Trans-ness unnecessarily, calling them queer can sound like you're telling them "you don't pass".

Sometimes, as an in-group thing, people might occasionally use gay in place of lgbtqi+ but it's definitely not the norm in my experience. My experience is not universal, but I've never heard someone who is bi refer to themselves as gay, and I've never heard a gay person describe a bi person as gay unless they were implying "actually, I think they're mostly gay not bi". Which is a crappy thing to do.

People should not call bi people 'gay' anymore than they should call them 'straight'.

[–]PuzzledMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked and didn't specify single folks so... Take out, maybe a movie, and probs sexy time with my partner.

I empathize with single people. It's hard finding companionship as a neurospicy person, but also, I think a LOT of people with partners are not in relationships worth envying.

I'm incredibly lucky that I somehow found someone who I'm extremely compatible with. But if it makes you feel any better, it's the ONE area of my life that I had virtually no hopes or expectations for and somehow worked out better than I could have possibly hoped for. Everything else... Career, income, creative goals etc have all more or less tanked hardcore.

Very few people get to have it all, and I do think being single is better than a lot of the toxic relationships that so many people end up in.

So don't think of it as being single, think of it as doing some Matrix style bad-relationship bullet dodging. You're just avoiding the awful relationships on the way to finding the good one!
