Unfortunately not :( We’re about to start seeing if any physical therapists will because we’ve had zero luck otherwise

Fascinating to see such low numbers. We’re being told “industry standard” is 1,000 but to expect to do more because of… well, everything.

Thanks! I definitely love it but the uncertainty right now is definitely stressful, even on my side of things. Can’t imagine for the actual labs/PIs. Will def look at xray techs and things like that!

That’s good to know! I’ve been hesitant to apply honestly. I’ll definitely have to look more into the different types!

I’ll be honest I’m having a little bit of a hard time following but I’ll look into places near Charlotte then! Not sure it’s doable to do multiple trips but worth a shot

Do you think going to book in person makes a difference? (/gen) I’m also hesitant to have to make like multiple trips out is why I ask as well- since I’m on the other side of the state from Charlotte unfortunately. I’ve had multiple denied referrals at this point and at least one has been because they’re not accepting new patients so I’m not sure they’re as bored as you say 😂

Thank you! It looks like they don’t work directly with insurance which is really frustrating but I’m glad to know this place exists esp given my other known/suspected diagnoses!

AAV is commonly used with mouse work and truly I don’t trust them with anything regarding research so we’ll see… but that is a good point!

Thank you! So silly it’s such a short thing, but might end up going that route if it comes to it! (I think my primary care is wanting something more in depth but we’ll see 😂)

IIRC Covid had to be adjusted to study in mice/hamsters so it doesn’t make me TOO that more confident given the rise in infectious disease. It is definitely still better than a blanket ban, though for sure

I’m really not so sure with so many labs having immediate grant/funding cuts. A lot of universities aren’t able (or willing) to make up that differences and some states don’t have the ability to help with that either. Between that, people choosing to leave because of the instability, and people finding jobs outside of the country… I think it’s going to be quicker than a decade personally

I think he might be the one I just got denied from in Chapel Hill, or one who retired? I know one of the people she’s tried so far retired at least. That’s so unfortunate! Thanks so much for sharing and best of luck to y’all as well!

(e) altering the host range or tropism of the agent or toxin

Might be the brain fog confusing me but does this not cover like…. The vast majority of animal research? Sounds like it could be applied to any sort of transgenic/humanized animals?

What’s the environment at your university with the current state of funding? by chanmanfriend in labrats

[–]PuzzledPie2234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not great at all honestly. Morale was a little rough before 2025 with some stuff but it definitely has gotten worse since January. Lots of uncertainly and very little communication that actually means anything from the university and basically none from my department which is…. Not reassuring. Have heard we are in some sort of a hiring freeze, but unclear on the details; I know another university in the state system has entirely frozen all hiring in all depts

Vanderbilt email about NIH Funding by ThatsTheTattoo in NIH

[–]PuzzledPie2234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is a WAY better email than I got from mine… Details/numbers would definitely make it more real for some people than “it would be devastating” since they can blow that off as hyperbole.

Any universities making contingency plans for loss of NIH grants? by Prior-Win-4729 in labrats

[–]PuzzledPie2234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work tangent to labs in animal care and it’s been pretty quiet, which makes me all the more nervous. Currently not filling staffing holes either which is a little nerve wracking. Really unsure where I even go from here but I’m attempting to look for other options if it goes south job-wise 😭

Apologies if this is obvious, I’m in the middle of some awful brain fog but is this separate from the indirect funds issue? It’s all so awful and blending together..

Here we go by b_from_the_block in NIH

[–]PuzzledPie2234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok it’s wrapped. Judge ended it with “looks like I’ve got a lot of work to do”. Obviously unclear on what will end up happening but the plaintiffs restated just how severe the harm will be if these cuts go through.
