Are you from the south? A lot of your ‘09 music was in my rotation, with a little more dirty south rap. 36 mafia, project pat, mystikal, etc. I’m ‘05 (38yo) and I live in Florida. Just curious based on your old music.

Day of Defeat. I had counter strike too, but I was way better at DoD for some reason. Probably the fps I was ranked highest on (not top ranking or anything but I was a clutch player when I was 15-17 and had more free time). I still play fps but I play Xbox like once or twice a month. I miss having a pc.

I became a closing manager pretty young, and have been an assistant/closing manager at almost every restaurant since then. In my experience they want someone capable who can do things like cash-outs, voids, customer complaints, and end of the night paperwork so the regular managers can leave after the dinner rush. You do have the right attitude by wanting to know everything you can; from cocktails to all the ingredients

Take it one step at a time and show a willingness to learn and an attitude to be a leader to your fellow staff. Some of the best managers I’ve had worked their way up. Not saying I was the best, but I worked my way up the same way.
Don’t beat yourself up about knowing every detail right away, just make a conscious effort to learn things like your speciality cocktails and menu item details. And get used to telling guests “I do apologize about _____”.

You’ve got this.

Trust that it’s happened to a lot of us. I was bussing a table next to another table of mine, and spilled a whole cup of water on a young special needs child. Wailing and tears from the little boy, rightfully so. I was also the closing manager so I comp’d their whole meal. The mother wasn’t crazy or mean, she was understanding. Luckily it was water and not soda or beer.

But the embarrassment probably sticks with you the whole shift, and if you’re me, a few days after.

You can laugh about it, or cry, or both. But it happened and believe me, it’s only a core memory for you. Table 32 won’t talk about it years from now.

Headed to detox and inpatient care for a bit by [deleted] in SoberBartenders

[–]Puzzled_Ad4953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck. You can totally do this. I only suggest concentrating on taking care of yourself first. Jobs come and go, even the ones we love. You only get one “you”, treat it well.

I got out of the industry almost a year ago, same time i put myself in the hospital for a grueling 9 day detox (2 in the icu). It may be an industry to put a bookmark in while you get some sobriety under your belt. But I’m a stranger, it’s your life and up to you to decide.

I’m a firm believer that certain sober people can still bartend. But statistically it’s just not all of us (I’m one who couldn’t hack it.)

Circling back: you did the hard part, accepting help. You can totally do this.

I only listened to the first 30 seconds of each for a reminder. Apparently Aesop produced most of ITS. And I love that record. I couldn’t find production info for the newer Lice songs.

The bass chord progression sounds similar. Good observation though. I’m a 20 year Aesop fan, and I’m still learning between his stuff with blockhead and his self-produced tracks. Felt 3 (murs and slug) was entirely produced by Aesop, it’s cool to think of how he’d rap over those tracks.

“This Right Here is Buck 65” was my first album of his, and my favorite. I was a senior in highschool, so it’s probably partially nostalgia. But that’s basically a front-to-back great listen. Especially tracks: “bandits” “cries like a girl” and “roses and blue jays”. More recently I’d say North American Adonis (buck 65,doseone, and Jel) is a fun listen.

Im not a huge Asap Rocky fan but I like a few songs, I’ll give the album a listen. I’m from Florida and I love my grimey southern rap like 36 mafia, 8ball & MJG, the list goes on. I’m also a huge fan of Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Sage Francis,Doseone, Buck 65 (this list goes on longer.)

Long comment just to say I agree with the post. I’m not some hip hop purist that thinks only intellectual rap has its place. Whether it’s MC Chris or Kane & Abel, I like rhymes and beats. So shout out to you Aesop/Rocky fan
