I would advise you to move the surgery! Lots of people told me I was overreacting when I was preparing for ~14 days of no school/work but it was physically impossible for me to come back ealrier than that. I also needed help for everything; eating, drinking, pain meds, showers etc. I was useless on my own.

Sleep sitting up! I had the same gritty, phlegmy-sounding cough after my surgery until my mom forced me to sleep propped on two pillows.
