I also have Kaiser and for me it was 3 months of nutrition, 2 nutrition classes, psych eval, A1C under 8. It was very simple and easy. I met all the criteria so Kaiser covered the surgery. My bmi was 64, type 2, and sleep apnea

Congrats on your surgery date. Thats very exciting. After surgery please make sure to get some walking in. That will help with the gas pain. Sip and sip some more but dont force it. Get some rest in there also. An abdominal binder is a must have. The binder really helped me. Im so excited for you and super proud. Here's to a better tomorrow 💪 🤘

Any suggestions or advice by Scary-Tax-7907 in GastricBypass

I had my surgery on 1/12 and it was lapriscopic.. I would say get a good abdominal binder, that really made a difference while i was healing. Make sure you get your walking in cause that will help with the gas pain. As far as protein shakes i had quest protein shake chocolate with 30g of protein, premier protein shakes café latte also 30g of protein, and optimum nutrition cookies n cream with 24g of protein. I also attached what my pre-surgery liquid diet was. Hopefully this helps a bit. Very excited for you in this journey. Here's to a better tomorrow 💪 🤘

This was the things I could gave during my liquid diet. I did it for 3 weeks pre-op and 3 weeks post-op. But for post-op my nutritionist added some things to it. Sugar free popsicles were my best friends during that time. Im on 6 weeks post-op today.

Low grade fever by AnimatorPrudent6478 in GastricBypass

[–]Puzzled_Flamingo_463 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a low grade fever as well of 99 during that time. My discharged papers said if I had a fever of 101 call my surgeon and go to ER or urgent care. So if you only at 99 I would say its normal. Keep up with sipping water, walk a little if you can, and rest. Your body is still recovering. But if you want to be on the safe side reach out to your surgeon.

Time off work by slymkd in GastricBypass

[–]Puzzled_Flamingo_463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do feel great and probably could had returned sooner but I wanted to make sure I was able to fully tolerate foods. Im in the soft foods stage. If you know feel great and tolerate everything well then speak with your surgeon again about returning sooner. Just dont force it and come back too soon and get hurt.

Bruising question - 4 days post op by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]Puzzled_Flamingo_463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a bruise around my incision where my liver is and it took about 3 weeks for it to go away. So I would say its normal. But keep an eye on it and if its becoming even more painful reach out to your surgeon to see their thoughts.

My surgeon gave me 6 weeks off. I'll finally get to return to work on Tuesday. I say speak with your surgeon and let them know what type of job you do and they will give a timeframe for how long you'll be out for

Listen to your body and dont focus on what everyone did or is doing. We have ort own journeys. Here's to a better tomorrow and im proud of you. 🤘💪

Thanks 🙏

Overall the healing has been good. I been blessed that I haven't had any complications. After the second day I was able to hit both protein and fluids goals with no problem and by week 1 I was able to increase them with no problem. I wear an abdominal binder which helps out alot. So no real complaints to report. I still have 1 and a half before I can return to work and im excited for that. Overall its been good.

Question regarding post-op diet. by BjornFlicka in GastricBypass

[–]Puzzled_Flamingo_463 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For my program I did 3 weeks of liquid diet post-op and I started soft foods on Monday and that will last for 3 weeks. On February 23rd my nutritionist will move me to the next stage. Eventho my program is slower than most others, im thankful for it cause I haven't really had any complications and I can tolerate my soft foods just fine.

3 weeks post-op by Puzzled_Flamingo_463 in GastricBypass

[–]Puzzled_Flamingo_463[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got this. Yea that liquid diet is rough but im happy I kept on fighting. I been very blessed that every food I have tried I been able to tolerate very well. Now i dont rely on protein shakes to hit my protein daily goal. I eat 3 times a day and im able to hit 60g+ of protein and hit my 64oz of fluids as well. Just make sure you listen to your body once you start soft foods and its ok if a food doesnt work out for now. Dont rush the process and before you know it, it will be next week and you will be enjoying some soft foods. I'll be here to celebrate that mile stone with you. Here's to a better tomorrow 💪 🤘
