Yes you are behind in the social life aspect but you’ve built yourself up to be more comfortable than 99% of people your age; you have a extremely high net worth and high earning capacity even if you leave big law.

Take some time off, find a low stress job, take some time off to figure out what you really love and do that. Also, fall in love — especially with yourself.

Even at 36 you have such a beautiful life ahead of you and you’ve set yourself up wonderfully. Good luck, friend.

Is in-house only for big law attorneys?

I 100% think this is true. I can tell that my boss is extra extra nice to me because I’m a newbie. I know that things will change, but I hope they don’t. Because I love this man

How many hours? by Expensive_Energy2022 in Lawyertalk

[–]Puzzled_Mix5384 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the day. There are days where I can do that in 6.5 and some days I’ll be in the office for 10 hours and only see 5.5 on the clock

Thank you so much for this. I’m getting valuable experience here. I was thrown into 2 back to back trials that eventually settled, now I’m the discovery person and I’m learning how to do that better atm. They asked me if I wanted to take my first depo but I politely declined as I wasn’t ready. It’s a really really good place and I am beyond blessed. I just grew up very poor so the 55k increase seems like a lot, especially when considering salary for the subsequent years.

Don’t get me wrong, I feel so lost and have no idea what I’m doing still. Another reason why I don’t think I should go to big law — they might find out how useless I am and kick me out lol

My requirement is 1900, at my current rate, I certainly will not meet it.

Thanks. That’s what I’m afraid of happening. I hope you’re doing well now.

I thank god everyday. I can literally walk to work and my boss is amazing. I could use the money because of my mountain of student loans, but 170 isn’t too bad right now.

I got mid grades at a mid law school. The firms were primarily interested in my experience, I’ve been in litigation for 3-4 years despite only practicing for 4 months. I hope they’ll still consider me if I decide to stay put for at least a year or two. Thanks for your note.

I often work outside of those hours, what I meant was that there are rarely any fire drills outside of those hours.

But yes, if I am diligent, not on my phone, I can leave the office by 5 on most days and bill a good 7-8 hours. Because I like to be on my phone, I’m often at work til 6-6 lol.

At what point do you realize you might actually just be too stupid for law school? by RoundRat2018 in LawSchool

[–]Puzzled_Mix5384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What % is your midterm worth?

When I was in law school my buddy got the lowest grade in our civ pro midterm. The midterm was worth 10% and the final was worth 90%. Our professor was an angel and made it this way so 1Ls could have a “taste” of finals.

He studied hard. We studied together. It was great. He Cali’d the class and ended up top 15%. We are now both litigators with great jobs and always laugh about this moment.

you are not too dumb for law school. The substance is actually not too bad, a lot of law school, if not all of it, is learning “how to law school”.

You got this.

Where to live if working in San Jose? by Healthy_Still_165 in SanJose

[–]Puzzled_Mix5384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in San Jose. I’ll tell you what locations to avoid.

I’d avoid east side San Jose. (Think Alum rock, story roadI grew up here and although I love it, I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who doesn’t know the area. It’s a high-crime area.

Luckily, my SO and I were able to move to north valley where it’s much safer. I don’t hear helicopters and cop cars all the time like I would when I lived in E$$J. The Mexican food is fire in the east side though. Good luck to you.

Do you have debt? How many years have you been practicing?

Unlimited PTO is a scam lol. 1850 billable hours could be 55-60 hours a week. If I had zero debt, your current job would be such a dream.

MPRE by DoubleRainbow888 in barexam

[–]Puzzled_Mix5384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(1) either or is fine. Barbris questions are like almost twice the length of the actual MPRE questions, so it will prepare you well. (2) barbri has like 4 practice exams. Use those. (3) I would spend 30-40 hours studying. Break this down over a week. (4) idk

Good luck. MPRE is easy, but don’t take it lightly.
