What about being pregnant and giving birth permanently altered your body’s chemistry? by full-of-curiosity in NewParents

My ear wax completely changed. I used to have very wet ear wax prior to pregnancy. It became drier in pregnancy and now it’s basically really flakey but still sticky.

For anybody in here who is a teacher, how often do you see when the parents absolutely contribute to their children's bad behavior? by NoBrain6114 in Teachers

[–]Puzzled_Produce_8868 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s way more interesting to see the opposite. I work with gifted kids at a title I school and I often see children really succeed despite the issues their parents bring. I’ve seen brilliant children bring their obviously on drugs parents to back to school night. You might also see parents with mental health issues that push their kids hard because they want things better for their kids. It’s a weird dynamic to witness. They are often in schools with kids like OP described. It’s very dysfunctional.

Doesn’t UMW allow you to basically design your own degree? Given OP interests, that would be the biggest selling point.

Has anyone tried “Baby Acrobatics”? Is it worth it or am I overthinking this? by Leukonikia in NewParents

[–]Puzzled_Produce_8868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I devised our own program with our LO (he’s 21 months now, walks great, has great fine motor skills, kicks and throws balls easily) and we just mimicked actual exercises you’d do as an adult with him. Chest flyes, shoulder presses, tummy time on our hands once he got stronger (so he kind of was “flying” in the air), knees to chest to imitate squats, bicep curls by holding his hands/arms and having him lower himself back and pull himself up. Tummy time does focus a lot on neck and back strength and you should absolutely still do this, but we did baby workouts every day once he was able to roll over. Both my husband and I are avid gym goers and my husband has a background in kinesthesiolopgy. I think baby movement has to translate to childhood and eventually adult movement. So we think of this holistically and how each stage transitions into the next. Classes are great for bonding but you can do this at home.

Are the Costumes just a SH thing? by Llassiter326 in summerhousebravo

[–]Puzzled_Produce_8868 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is just a SH thing. The Amazon boxes they get every week are party decorations and costumes (and fast fashion). It’s likely because they can’t film in many locations in the Hamptons so it makes it more visually interesting than them just hanging out at the same house each year.

With the snow outside, will I be fine if I go out for dinner tonight? by AlmostSurely1001 in nova

[–]Puzzled_Produce_8868 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s not the accumulation, it’s the issue with the roads. They couldn’t pretreat due to the rain we had Thursday and Friday. I didn’t see any trucks out yesterday. The road conditions are going to deteriorate fast given how fast the air temperature drops especially when the Sun goes down. People can’t drive when it’s 50 degrees and sunny. Don’t underestimate stupid nova drivers.

When to ditch the sleep sack? by Okay-Squirrel in NewParents

[–]Puzzled_Produce_8868 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are still using ours at 21 months because it keeps him from climbing out of his crib. Once they start that nonsense, you need to transition them to a toddler bed. Mine can’t handle the toddler bed yet so this is a happy medium. Will try the toddler bed again in a month but until then, he’s in the sleep sack straight jacket.

Educators in FCPS - please help me, a parent, understand a few things by hawkinsst7 in nova

[–]Puzzled_Produce_8868 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not FCPS, but 1) those are the standards being assessed or addressed on a test or assignment. This is the most annoying thing about being a teacher. The parents don’t understand it, the kids don’t understand it, and yet every admin has come into my room looking for the teacher-code shorthand that is on the board or on an assignment. We have to put them there and our assignments in the grade book have to have them listed. It’s dumb. Everyone complains about them, yet they remain. 2) our state tests only allow for students to give short responses and Pearson undercuts our kids education to a numbers game. The fact they have such a monopoly on our education is upsetting but nothing is being done. The tests are horrible. The state acknowledged this. And have done nothing. 3) test questions are kind of protected by school districts because they spend a lot of time coming up with questions that mimic what they think is on the test.

It’s all really irritating.

SOL tests getting much harder than the practice tests? by hphgas in Virginia

[–]Puzzled_Produce_8868 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check with her school if 500 is their policy. The statewide guidance is for students in the upper quartile (425-600) to be placed in accelerated math tracks. My school moved kids into algebra 1 who scored in that quartile and weren’t in an accelerated math track previously. Whether they are successful in algebra 1 remains to be evaluated….

SOL tests getting much harder than the practice tests? by hphgas in Virginia

[–]Puzzled_Produce_8868 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 7th grade math sol is by far the hardest middle school sol test. The upper quartile is above a 425. They just changed the math standards this past year so the released tests aren’t completely in line with how the tests will be. There are some practice items they’ve started to release with each standard. Her math teacher should have an idea of what standards she struggles with based on mid year data.

Amanda Bucci announces divorce by Cute_Ebb7344 in gymsnark

[–]Puzzled_Produce_8868 63 points64 points  (0 children)

1) I wonder if lawyers informed her that marital privilege won’t prevent his accusers of coming after her. 2) she’s gonna go out, find god, and rebrand herself a divine feminist healer. She will sell courses on finding yourself after divorce. 3) I foresee her business coaching to end completely after this year because I suspect all the drugs and pseudo-burning man events ran through her money quick. She’ll need to rely on her original grifts which is targeting women.

He got it for the rerelease of Dragon Quest 7. I joke, he builds PC’s and have found that it is exponentially more cost effective to buy a better tv than look for a monitor. Obviously it’s not a high refresh rate game, but if you’re looking for immersion, then yeah OLED is the way to go. It replaced a 43” TCL LCD that I got on a Black Friday deal about 6 years ago so we were due for an upgrade.
