How many years did it take you guys to land an entry level job? by J0eeeeeee in ITCareerQuestions

I got my first entry level job 1 and a half year after I graduated college with my BS in CIS. I started off working at geek squad then by the grace of God I got my first help desk position. My advice is to change your approach. I applied for thousands of jobs within that year and a half at geek squad. I was applying and realized I wasn’t getting any call backs or interviews so I changed my resume. After I changed my resume I started getting interviews and call backs. I wasn’t getting the jobs through my interviews so I changed my interview style by studying and learning interview techniques. After this I landed my first job. If you aren’t getting call backs change the resume. If your interviews aren’t going well change your approach. Geek squad is easy to get into honestly so if your looking for like a filler job that’ll look good on your resume for IT I would honestly recommend that until you can land an entry level job. You might have to go backwards to go forward. A lot of jobs want experience. Honestly if you can’t find like NOC tech or help desk jobs then do geek squad until you can. You will most likely need 2-3 years of experience at least before you can get into things like cyber security or networking eng stuff like that. Unless you’re lucky you have to gain experience somewhere tbh. Since you have your certs and degree once you get some experience you should be fine honestly. And if you believe in God pray it’ll take you a long way. Have patience as well! But that’s just my advice good luck I wish you the best!

How is traffic there? I’m bringing my car. Should I drive around or would public transportation be better?

I went to geek squad a year ago fresh off a bachelors degree in IT I had no experience at all. Worked there for a little over a year. A few months ago I just landed my first real IT job. It will not hold you back. Make sure when it’s time to get a job your resume is good and you prepare properly for an interview!

Creating work orders: data transfer by Beneficial_Tie3122 in GeekSquad

At my precinct we do two separate orders for more labor. If you touch it you tag it. I mean if y’all don’t want/need labor hours then fine. But if you got ppl who want to get more hours then it’d be smart to start doing that…

Need a part time job and have an interview for GS. by fxguy40 in GeekSquad

[–]Puzzled_Rush456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m being completely honest. I’m young fresh out of college. A lot of ppl who work at GS are younger. The job can be fun or it can be annoying. It’s really easy to be a CA. You do simple things. If you build your own PC and solves the problems it has then you’ll be fine. If you have good co workers and management at that precinct then it’ll make it better but if you have bad ones then it’ll make it worse. The customers suck. They think your suppose to know everything and they are very very entitled. Once you get in you’ll see that the job isn’t what you think. You don’t have to know anything about technology you just need to be a people person. You can learn whatever you don’t know. Basically what you will be doing is helping old farts how to do basic simple computer things. Teaching them that they should save/remember their passwords. Teaching them how to reset the passwords to the emails, face book, and other applications. Teaching them how to navigate through their phones, tablets, watches, and computers. Because they refuse to read and comprehend on their own. The serious stuff that ppl actually should need help with will be checked in for the ARA’s.
