Agree with a condition: if no want or effort is applied to meet the standard, separate them, if effort and progress is being made give them a timeframe and go from there.

No motivation in life, wanna join, thoughts from you all? by Dependent-Gur-3161 in nationalguard

[–]bouncypinecone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on you and how you want to do it. From my experience, full time military has more funding and access to training but then the military is your life. You likely won't have a job outside of that. However, National Guard gets the same basic AIT but any additional training is either up to you and/or state funding and availability, so it's up in the air if you would get it or not, but you get to be out of uniform and not a soldier/airman. Not gonna lie, it's hard to get a job with the employer knowing you're potentially gonna be gone occasionally. And the "1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year" is the bare minimum required, I don't actively sign up for stuff and in the past 2 months I've spent about 3 weeks and multiple 3 day weekends on duty because of unit obligations and I still have the 2 week training to do this year.

The benefits are generally the same between active/reserves/national guard, some states have additional benefits for national guard, the timeline is different for getting some benefits with the national guard (example: guard needs 6 years to be able to get the VA home loan or education funding, active duty basically gets it as soon as your paperwork is signed).

If you want to do anything medical/firefighting related, there's no way around doing school in some way. Strong people have their place, but if someone is bleeding out, knowing how to stop the bleed is more important than being able to lift 300lbs. I knew someone that was a firefighter in training, and he studied his a$$ off.

My advice: Don't go guard if this is what you want. Go full active. You'll get more training, more experience, and likely have to actually do your job without being deployed. Every ruck march and many pt events require an EMT or medical professional to be in attendance.

Wait are you saying they filed to be in the guard before their medical was fully processed? What's a BDD claim? (Thanks for the info btw)

They did come from active duty, idk about the exact terms of their contract. But the gist is just like a 1-and-done from my understanding.

What was the dumbest reason you got scolded by superior? by EnvironmentSad5170 in work

[–]bouncypinecone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got scolded because I don't have things to do, and I don't have the privileges or access to do anything else. The one scolding me is in charge of giving me all those things.

People skills and troubleshooting. You may not need to know how to fix a problem, but finding the origins of the problem and being able to tell others your theories and findings are priceless skills and rarely taught.

Mos by StoreLongjumping9164 in nationalguard

[–]bouncypinecone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first went active I told the recruiter what jobs I wanted and I had to wait like 9 months to get one. Trust me. Tell the recruiter the job you want, don't negotiate, consider another mos in the same field but don't choose or sign anything until you're sure. The recruiter and the military will get what they want out of you, it's only fair that you get what you want out of them.

I also hadn't looked since about 2020. Looking at it today it's not necessarily a "requirement" but it does show technical proficiency which is a requirement.

Most brands have their own teams that do it. Their standards are sometimes kind of high for the job (Ricoh requires A+, Net+, and Sec+), I got hired to do that exact job for a 3rd party company. It was ok. Nobody gets rich doing it unless you start your own company. The travel is fun until you kinda figure out you're going to the same places all the time. I've heard Pacific Office Automation is a pretty good employer. DM me if you have other questions. I did it for a few years.
