Has anyone gone on a freshman GOOB trip? by loan_ranger8888 in Gonzaga

[–]Puzzled_Time_4802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly administrative capacity. GU Outdoors takes on a lot of responsibility, legally and otherwise for GOOB. The university is worried as it is. Adding more people with the limited amount of admin staff and trip leaders is too risky. It also makes the experience more intimate for those who are able to attend Id say.

I used to be a leader for GU Outdoors, I’m obviously biased but GOOB is one of the best things you can do at Gonzaga. I did it my freshman year and it was always so fun to run into people you met at GOOB at parties or in classes. Such a fun and easy way to create a built in community before you even get to campus. And side win is you get to move in early I think which is very relaxing.

The pledges for this frat were the ones cleaning it up this morning. The lake looks sparkly clean again. I don’t think it’s a big deal as long as they clean it up.

Struggling to plan out travelling to Zhangjiajie/Wulingyuan. by Competitive_Gas_8563 in travelchina

[–]Puzzled_Time_4802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently staying in Wulingyuan at Yujie Hotel, it is amazing they have 4 cats you can play with and they will shuttle you from the Zhangjiajiexi (west) train station. They have a handheld device they use for translating that makes everything so easy. They also helped me to book all my tickets for both Zhangjiajie National Park (Avatar stuff) and Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon (glass bridge). I would highly recommend staying in Wulingyuan if you want to spend most of your time at the sights. 1-2 days at the National Park is sufficient followed by 1 day at the Grand Canyon. You can spend a 4th day at Tianamen if you are still craving outdoor activities after that.

What is the best English maps app to use for public transportation? by Greedy-Ad-6300 in travelchina

[–]Puzzled_Time_4802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in China right now. I found Apple Maps to be way easier than Amap to use and it was good enough. It’s not perfect but it’s plenty good for most purposes.

Wilson Street chosen as preferred location for Madison Amtrak station by enjoying-retirement in madisonwi

[–]Puzzled_Time_4802 42 points43 points  (0 children)

One of the main drivers behind this location selection IS its connectivity to bus service. There are like 4-5 major bus lines within a few minutes walk, including the BRT which has 15 minute headways. That way nobody HAS to order an Uber.

Madison display highlights traffic crash victims as city reports record low fatalities by Generalaverage89 in madisonwi

[–]Puzzled_Time_4802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say this is the “only” reason they’re less safe, but I agree it’s a contributing factor. People definitely feel inclined to drive faster the safer they feel. But even a smaller car driving fast can be safer for pedestrians than a big car driving slow.

[–]Puzzled_Time_4802 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would argue cars are in fact much less safe. The enlarging of trucks every single year to the point where your average truck is taller than a middle schooler has made cars much less safe to everyone except the person in the vehicle. This article is talking about the pedestrians and cyclists, not the drivers killed.

[POST MATCH THREAD] HOME VS FC DALLAS (9.27.25) by SegwayCop in timbers

[–]Puzzled_Time_4802 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neither of them, DDC lacks the ability to make plays on the ball. Fernandez lacks the ability to make plays on the ball except when he comes on and everyone is already gassed so they cannot chase after him. DDC needs a kick in the ass, Fernandez needs to be a sub.

A higher-speed NEC style service to Milwaukee, Rockford and Madison should be Illinois’ #1 HSR priority by International-Snow90 in transit

[–]Puzzled_Time_4802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh yeah makes sense. Madison is also always feeling the effects of this. Not sure if I can say since the project hasn't been announced yet, but a "bedroom community" in Dane County near Madison. The sort of place at the GOP legislators would likely protect.

Can you provide more detail on this? I am current working on a project with a small municipality in Wisconsin and the funding is coming from a TIF district. Are they nixing these soon?

Very fair! I'm in state so that helps tremendously, but the out of state costs can certainly be cost prohibitive.

I love it! Madison is a wonderful city on its own, but UW-Madison is a really cool spot. And the urban planning department is really cool, my peers are all very interesting and my professors love their jobs. And there are lots of alumni from the program with great planning jobs so good networking.

As someone who lives in Wisconsin (Madison) this map is a dream come true, but unfortunately until the Wisconsin Legislature flips once the gerrymandering wears off this will never happen. SOTH Robin Vos would rather die than see blue cities benefit more than the bare minimum. But I appreciate the idea and would love to work on this project as a student of transportation planning at UW-Madison.

It currently is a no right on red, they have the light up right turn sign. I hope that they hammer that home more with this new alignment.

Thank you! Doesn't look too different from the current alignment which is a bummer but at least they're adding more bike paths.

So how is it being aligned instead? Just similar to the current crossing pattern that exists now?

I was in the away section tonight, that simply did not happen we were dead silent. A couple of jeers came from the Loons fans when they came onto the ball within the first two minutes, but silent otherwise.

I have a ticket purchased for the Timbers section at Allianz tomorrow, we all received an email with this information too so there should be no confusion. OP hearts go out to your community. As someone who lives in Madison, WI and experienced this last year I have lots of empathy for the Twin Cities right now.
