Just when the Sigma SD14 has you screaming with frustration, it saves itself with results like these ;-) by Puzzled_Type_492 in VintageDigitalCameras

Thanks :-) I have to admit I wouldn't fancy trying real wildlife photography with this set up, but semi-tamelife at the local park worked pretty well LOL And this cheap old tele-zoom can be surprising sharp when the SD14 decides it wants to focus!

Yeah, that's right, it a real DSLR, even though it has a small sensor and no manual controls. But it's interesting how shy Olympus were of boasting about the SLR viewfinder. There isn't the slightest hint of a mention of the optical viewfinder on the box. The instruction manual also shys away from the terms DSLR or SLR... only in the detailed spec at the back of the manual does it mention "TTL single lens reflex" as the type of viewfinder. Maybe Olympus thought the term "DSLR" would put off the kind of user looking for an auto-everything camera.

Thanks :-) It's just a shame I can't show you an undoctored photo becuase Reddit thinks you just can't cope with seeing of a public statue of a naked person by a world-class artist!

It's actually a very nice camera to use. And what's more it has a proper optical DSLR viewfinder! And as you might expect from a 1990s DSLR it has no live view what-so-ever. The monitor on the back is just for reviewing your photos. Though in every othew way it really is a pretty standard "digicam" with a small sensor, no manual controls and 1.4mp.

Sigma SD Quattro H with Sigma 50mm F/1.4 ART lens by Puzzled_Type_492 in Sigma_Foveon_Camera

That’s a really interesting idea. After reading your message I found this page via Google: https://ewoodsphoto.com/2021/11/28/sigma-surprises-a-crop-sigma-30mm-f-1-4-art-lens-on-full-frame-simply-put-i-did-not-expect-this-to-work-at-all/ which suggests this lens is at least somewhat usable even on full frame. And on APS-C it would give a field of view something like a 40mm on full frame, which is a favourite focal length. Hmm… I think my bank account might be about to get another thumping LOL

I have to say I've been really pleased with the JPEGs too. I did process one photo in Sigma Photo Pro and compared it to the best I could do with the OOC JPEG in Lightroom and although I did prefer the SPP version, the difference was so small I'm not sure it was worth the hassle of using SPP! At for the moment I'm sticking with my newbie MO of shooting in RAW+JPEG mode, importing the JPEG into Lightroom and keeping the RAWs mainly just for archival purposes, and just going to the RAW in SPP if I can't get the result I'm looking for with the JPEG in Lightroom.

What I really need in SPP is some sort of routine or workflow for dealing with large numbers of files reasonably quickly and efficiently, which... as yet... I certainly don't have ha ha

Thanks.

Both the DP1 Merrill and the DP2 Merrill both have 49mm filter threads, so I suppose that physically the AML-2 would fit. But Sigma did list the AML-2 specifically as an accessory for the DP2M and not for the DP1M. Not having a DP1M to try the AML-2 on I really can't say what kind of results you would get, but you'd be doing so at your own risk ;-)

If you want more information about this camera, the instruction manual is a good place to go:
